Do you have a custom pro install of ICE in your DC5

Has anyone installed a decent/custom installation of ICE into their DC5?
What configuration do people run?
What equipment do you run?

What sound proofing was done and main areas?

I am hopefully getting a pro install done in due course and the hope is to go 3 way up front with sub in rear in a custom enclosure so not to use up boot space, amplifed and nice head unit with external DSP.

Do people still do ICE builds

Loved seeing them before; but not really a music person so not for me

A mate has an off the shelf bass box and amp in his dc5; doubt it will affect weight much and sounds punchy enough

There was a thread about small amp/ subs for under seats too recently; which may give more oomph for what you want; unless you want something as a show item?

hi

yes ICE builds etc are still happening but very specialist now, Its probably more car customisation now than actual ICE installs. the business that i am going to work on cars right up to ferrarri etc and do a lot of work in terms of parking sensors installs etc as well.

in terms of tech there is still a lot of companies making car audio and a lot are european based still ... its amazing whats still out there and yet people say the scene is dead ... its alive OK but different market now. A lot of people out there are still not happy with audio that comes in the modern car ... the rubbish i have seen coming out of high end german stuff would frighten you.
utter trash ... honeslty you would not believe the crap in modern cars being dubbed as good audio

I love my tunes and always liked good sound so going to try to put a nice wee setup in the car. its not gonna be showcase but i will be putting decent gear in along with appropriate sound deadening. think it will be a 3 way in the front so that will mean custom a pillars being made and then the sub which has to be properly installed and have already seen nice installs in the dc5 using the sides in the boot.

the majoirty on here want to spend their money on chasing large bhp and i have no issue with that and enjoy seeing what people do. i want a car that handles really well, is sharp to a point and entertains me both in driving and in the car; so i am chasing these 2 things first but unlikely to go down the bhp route as its simply too costly to do with NA engines.

its sad though that you have to seek out a specialist in order to do what i want now whereas back in the day this system would have been put in easily and cheaply but those days have gone

I remember picking up the car magazines and used to be adverts after adverts on ICE stuff

I'm sure the sound will be a lot better with improved speakers all round.

But the teg isn't great on soundproofing from engine, exhaust, road noise as it's not what it's built for so I guess to get the best out of upgrade speakers will need sound deadening too; but will that ruin the characteristics of the teg?

I do like the subtle builds which are carpeted and look and shaped to the sides so looks more oem.

Although I remember a mate having a false floor with sub, neon lights and felted and look good which I wanted in my old car lol

Wander what's happened to the big brands, i remember JL, foss rock gate or something etc.

Apparently, my car has the Gathers speaker upgrade.

They're about as much use as the standard ones I imagine.

mine will be very subtle ... no false floors, lighting tubes and multiple amps!!!
my car will retain as OEM as much as possible in terms of mods i decide to do or certainly be easily converted back. the sound system will be made up of 3 way component up front, sub and 5 channel amp with my newly purchased pioneer head unit and possibly the purchase of an external dsp to fine tune the speakers and it will be standard across the car. the build in relation to the sub is an expensive part as i want a tidy set up without losing valuable boot space!

the installer i am using has done a couple of dc5's in the past and seems to know where the priority lies in the dc5 in terms of sound deadening ... doors need fully coated and a few areas in the back end but as the sound will be very much frontal based they will be doing the most there, the sub will be in the back just adding a bit of punch and it will be around 10" in size ... NO RACKET!.
its not enough to ruin the characteristics of the car ... yes may add a bit more weight but i can live with that. i need to lose the lbs anyway!!!!

the likes of JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate are all still in business along with a lot of new names ... well to me anyway. lots of choice and everything to suit everyone's wallet and budget. you would be surprised how many players are still in the game and equally in terms of new business

BTW i flicked through this section of the forum and there has been some nice builds done and you can see what owners have done so good to know there are others out there like me! :)

Ah, mine has them in and I wondered what they were, as in OEM or aftermarket. Sadly my left one is not working but I think it's wiring related at the head unit end.

I would fancy proper components and an amp, but I don't want the weight of the sound deadening etc. I just need something to numb the road noise if anything!

Surely the addition of a bit of weight will NOT ruin the characteristics of how your car handles now UNLESS you are a track day demon and reducing seconds is what you crave?

if she is your drivers car its nice to have the nice drive the dc5 offers along with additional entertainment ... to me this adds up to a more rounded and complete driver environment ... then again i could become a track demon in my dc5 and decide to rip out all my kit and chase PTWR!!!!

doubtful ...

Its everyone's choice in the end but the installer here has done a few 5's so i certainly aint the only thinking that the sound in the car sucks major a$$

No it won't however my car (at the moment) is only ever going to get used on track, driving to and from track, a garage etc and an occasional weekend blast. It's a second car, so for me I don't know what point there is in spending 100's of £'s just to have nicer music on such occasions.

I had a great audio setup in the S2000 and in the Evo, both cost me £2k with all the bits and labour, that's a lot of track days for me and handling upgrades! I may put in a set of second hand speakers and a better head unit but I'm not sure it's worth my while dynamatting the doors and what not.

But for those that want it, great, it is possible to get great sound with some decent components without using a heavy amp. The Audison Voce AV K6 speakers would get my vote along with a decent class D amp. If you really want a sub then Kicker do a nice compact one that sounds fine.

i will purchase this kit and then likely carry it to the next car i buy ... its an investment for me more than trying to sell after use

I've just ripped the Gathers speakers from my Teg, let's just say the Rainbow gear I've installed / installing is in a different league in build / sound quality.

I have not done an install, but started installing a decent quality system. Decent Kenwood headunit, with bluetooth and DAB, and currently running Focal front speakers and tweeters through an Alpine amp. I am going to do some sound deadening in the doors and around the rear speakers once I have completed some more performance based mods. :)

Does anyone else's rear speakers/Panel Trim vibrate really loud? I haven't had a chance to take stuff off to look at it yet, but i was hoping a bit of Dynamatt would be able to sort it out.

As far as I am aware, the system should be stock. (unless the speakers are so poo they are distorting like mad)

Mine buzzes too when above a certain volume!
It also has the Gathers speakers but again, above a certain volume they start to crackle and it isn't a particularly loud volume either!
