Thanks guys, have to try and find out the fault tomorrow in the daylight. Just had mine come on today, it's been a really crappy week trying to sort my car out for it's M.O.T stupid bloody plates and laws. Was supposed to go TDI north for K100 on Tuesday, had to cancel that, was supposed to go Chester Zoo with my little boy tomorrow, just as i thought we could, MOT passed ok today, the engine management light came on as i went to get some petrol.

Not a good fornicateing week.

Will it cause the car any damage driving if it is the common 02 sensor?

No its ok to drive if its the o2 sensor might make it drink juice

The only damage that it will do is on your wallet :xlol:

Hehehe ok, cheers mate. Maybe a stupid question, but how do you change the sensor, where is it? Is it on the exhaust under the car? It's definatly the primary one, the one before the CAT.

Yes its underneath the car mate, You just unplug the electrical connector and then unscrew the sensor, handy enough job

Only thing that can happen is that with the heat off the cat it can make it very hard to remove the sensor hopefully you'l be ok though

Also guys, when you fit a new sensor, does the engine managment light go off, or do you have to plug it in and turn it off? Don't really wanna get ripped off for the job?

Remove the "back up" fuse in underbonnet fuse box or remove negative lead off battery for a minute to fault code from ecu

Thanks Stoo and AP.

Just had my mate look at it today, as i knew it would be really difficult to get out and he managed to loosen it i think., but it wouldn't come out, was wondering what the best thing to do is? He said take it to an exhaust place, im wondering if you can cut the old one off, so it's easier to get a grip on the socket, and then if you ruin the thread, can you just tap it, and put the new sensor in?

Also not sure if i ruin the thread, can i run the car without a sensor in at all till it's sorted. Nothing ever goes smootly.

They can be a right pain to remove I often have to heat the area around sensor to get the 02 sensor out. If it's very stiff when turning out try loosening half a turn then tighten in abit and loosen out further this may save your threads. You could cut the sensor yes so as to fit a socket over it(22mm socket) alternativelty take it to a exhaust shop they'll have open side sockets which means no cutting of sensor to fit over it.

Buy a closed spanner and chop a small piece out for the cable to go through, that way you'll get a good grip and no chance of rounding it off. That's how I did mine

Just gonna take it an exhaust specialist, theres bugger all room to work with, and i haven't got the right kit, and i doubt it's gonna come off, without heating up and shredding the thread.

Well guys, iam close to pulling my hair out. Thought i had it all sorted, but now the light is back on. :(

Took it to a small exhaust place yesterday, put it on the ramps, got it off ok without breaking the thread, put the new one in, and then i got him to plug his ECU reader in, and turn the light off. Now it didn't recognise the car, but he went to Civic Type R, and did his thing and the light went off. That was yesterday.....

Started the car today for work and the light came on straight away. Gutted. Is it the sensor? He fitted it fine, didn't knock it or anything. Got it from Rock Auto in the states, given the link from eXceed off these forum, very helpful he was to. Or could it be the fact he didn't use a proper ECU reader? I doubt it's this, as surely if he got the light off, it wouldn't come back on again unless there was a problem. God dammit.

Does anyone have a reader i can borrow?

Have you actually flashed the code with a paper clip in the diagnostics port to see what faults are logged in the ecu??

The light should go out when a fault is rectified. It shouldn't need switching off.

I changed mine over and the light stopped instantly mate. Might find there is an underlying issue.

As Stoo says mate diagnose your fault codes an find the what fault codes there are.
