I know you said that you only want to try a quote to decide whether to get a dc5 but is it really too much trouble to pick up the phone? You'll have a much better idea of where you stand if you do mate.

Of course I can pick up the phone
But rather than speaking to an agent who's not sure about dc5 was checking if there is a direct contact via here and save time jumping through hoops explaining about dc5 imports

Speak to a specialist and you'll have no problems with it being an import

greenlight
sky
adrain flux
prestige

my first call would be greenlight as their service is spot on and their prices are pretty much the lowest time after time.

As Cali says, if an agent doesn't know what a DC5 is the chances are it isn't on their system full stop so a online system won't help.

The insurers Cali mentioned specialise in imports etc and will have no problem quoting for a DC5 and understanding what mods you are declaring etc, always found them helpful.

With Greenlight myself for a couple of years now and it has been spot on, even when changing the policy or temporarily adding another car to it etc.

Might be worth reading some of their criteria posts on here and on CTRO to make sure you are eligible for their policies. although I know from experience that sometimes their are other factors that they consider, for myself, it was the fact that I had previous experience with high performances cars (over a year with an EP3) with no issues thus it made it ok for them to insure me.

Got a fair enough quote on some online ones

The two so called specialist wanted to know previous cars, alarm systems etc.

Don't think specialist will be able to beat £300 with protected no claims

This is because they know the exact car they are insuring and should you need to claim it wont be a problem.

Be wary of the generic quotes online as your car may be insured as something its not and you'll have a headache when trying to claim.

Who did you get the cheap online quote from? and what age are you? how many years no claims?

Think admiral
Need to double check but I basically tried those with cash back and searched for 2.0 integra as an option

30+ age
10+ ncd

Admiral's online system does now recognise imported DC5s correctly (at least when I checked a few weeks ago), however their entire service isn't that great - I've been insured with them in the past.

If you want to change anything in the policy, or rather anything to the car, you'll be stung for a silly amount of money for every change that you declare. Fail to declare, and your insurance is technically null and void, so you're driving without insurance bla bla etc etc you get the idea.

It may seem all well and good that the quote is cheap "on the face of it", but the specialist insurers have such a brilliant reputation for a reason - their customer care is fantastic, the staff are helpful and enthusiastic, their underwriters know exactly what they are doing and what they can afford to quote on and what they can't and their accommodation for adding mods is excellent.

If you do get a cheap quote with one of the big companies, then fantastic! If you're happy with the quote and the service levels they offer, good for you! No one is going to force you to go with a different company, it's your choice - all we can do is give advice and recommendations based on our own accounts with companies.

And as for the "wanting to know car history" question - every insurance company in this country should be asking this question - whether you can "handle" what is deemed as a powerful car and have a proven history of it will be a very big determining factor of the insurance quote.

I don't think anyone could get insured on a jap import for less than £300 with any insurer...

In addition to Benneh's post about Admiral, I have been with them too previously.. Their online system for the integra is based on the UKDM DC2 which is around 20-25 years old and nothing alike the DC5.. you would have to call them up yourself and talk to them about it.. If you are going to modify the car, Admiral requires you to declare the mods made but they will not insure them unless you buy an extra policy, but even that's not useful as you're only covered for upto £500.

Specialists like Brentacre, Chris Knott, Greenlight, Sky Insurance, Keith Michaels, know what a DC5 is and most of them insure your modifications when declared.

In terms of asking for your car history, they ask this became they want to know if you have the experience to handle a car that comes with 220bhp as standard and can reach to over 500bhp when turboed.. They will also need proof that you've owned a car with that sort of power.. e.g. Greenlight wanted me to prove my previous car was 150+ bhp before they would insure me..

Gotta disagree here.

I was with elephant for years (sister company) they did try and charge me for adding my private plate, but If I mentioned cancelling they would waive this.

I was also with Greenlight who wouldn't cover me on a BMW 330 so I had to cancel the policy. I didn't get any money back from this due to commission etc. I didn't have much long left on the policy so I wasn't too bothered but its worth bearing in mind.

I found Elephant to be very flexible and added numerous cars to the policy, I was even allowed to cover a car for just one day if I needed to.

Not having a go at Greenlight at all as they were pretty good and I never had to wait long to speak to someone on the phone.
