Blitz Sonic Review

I have had this filter for 6 months now, 5 months on the UK EP3 and now on my DC5. I bought it mainly for the looks but I love the sound it makes in Vtec, the car just screams. As for power increase, well i have not been on a RR so I don't know what power increase if any but my guess is that there must be a couple of bhp there somewhere, the sound makes you think its quicker but I can't prove it. Like I said earlier I got it for the looks and I think it looks the dogs when you open the bonnet. Will post pictures as soon as I can

Hi m8,

I saw one of these on an EP3 on a dyno run last year, and guess what it lost power compared to my standard EP3 on the same RR.

Just some of my thoughts, this type of filter is very open so it will suck in a lot of the hot air from around the engine, hence y loss power

I believe that to gain power you need a closed box / better filter  It is even better is the box is made from a none conductive material (ie Carbon Fibre) with a feed to the front of the car, you then might see a small increase in BHP, but not a lot with Honda's :(

Its worth noting that teams that raced the old DC2's on the track, tried many times to improve the OEM air box and feed, but in the end they found the the orginal was better

I appreciate what you are saying and don't doubt you at all, but on my EP3 I used a cold air feed from low in the front bumper which I think helps a lot, you could blow gently into the inlet in the bumper and clearly feel it at the filter end, so I would imagine that at any sort of speed you would get a healthy supply of cold air. Len-boy has some pictures of his Blitz on his EP3 with the same cold air feed, maybe he could post the pics? As soon as i have my bodykit fitted I will look for a route to do mine as well.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi,

They were just my thoughts, and if you look at the other post on engine temp etc, your see other think a like :?

My only prob with a cold air feed, is that it is only position on a small service area of the filter, so only a small section will recieve the cold air feed, unless the who filter is inclosed then it will suck in only air from the outside :!: :!:

Anyway, off to JAE

Thats a fair point and I did not take what you said the wrong way as I agree with what you are saying and if I had the extra £300 I would defo get a GruppeM jobbie and I may well get one anyway. The only other point i would make is that I have been to many meets with my EP3 and have always been able to hold my own against various A/I kits including the std.

Hi,

Cold air feed on my EP3 as Herts62 suggested. Note that the cold air is forced directly into the front of the filter.

Nice feed.. looks well engineered... couple of questions

1) Where are you picking the air up from ??

2) does all the bends affect the ram ait effect...

nicely made though.. what did you use or is it a bought part ??

Jevo,

The entrance to the duct pipe is situated right behind the front bumper where the factory fitted fog lights would normally go. Instead of the fogs, there is a kind of "louvre" in the bumper that you cut out to drop your lights into. All we did was cut some of these groves out to allow a decent air-flow through (dremel came in handy)

I don't think the bends have any affect on the air flow. As the air is forced into the pipe it has no-where else to go except straight out the other end and feed the filter. You can literally feel the air on your hand when someone simply blows into the front of the pipe so it can't affect it that much when travelling along.

I bought the pipe from a local motor factors (approx. £15 for 3m of 2" pipe) and the "horn" on the end facing the filter was a sting at £25 for 2 horns and a small length of piping that came in a pipercross kit - I'll do you a deal on my spare one if you want it.

Any other questions, just ask.

Len

Thanks for the photo's.. looks like you have a nice place to put it on the CTR... ITR front end is a bit more cramped with radiator and brake ducts... i'll have to have a a dig around and see if i can find a place to fit something as such that will give the ram effect....

Thanks

Jevo

p.s. if i can find somewhere we can do a deal ha ha 8)

Hi,

For this type of feed you need to take the front bumper off

I lost count the number of times last year with Synchro how many times I done this  , its not that hard on the EP3, so should be easy on a DC5

I managed to last year get some feed buck free from Halfords, left over stock, worth a try :?

I've got the Gruppe M Ram charger just over a week ago.
I can definately say theres an improvement on performance.
After fitting it, I took it out for a spin and the first thing I noticed was a power surge from 4500rpm and then when hitting the VTEC zone it goes mad.
I can get to ridiculously high speed quicker than before now. :D

If anyone havent seen this video I've posted on CTR and Honda-R forum then you should listen to what Spoon N1 and Gruppe M sounds like: SPOON N1 & GRUPPE M
the quality isnt that great though.
