Business insurance (more than 1 fixed place) - DC5 & Flux is a no no....

Just wondering if anyone has a business policy on their DC5?

I'm about to start working for a new company in the next 6 weeks, as part of my new role I'll be primarily based on one site however I'll occasionally (maybe once or twice a month) be expected to travel and support 2 other sites as and when required, maximum annual mileage to do this will be nowhere near even 1,000 miles.

Rang Adrian Flux and explained this to them and the fact that I'll have more than one fixed place of work and they have advised that none of their underwriters will cover this, pretty shocking really as our cars are hardly exotic on the grand scheme of things.

Company have asked that I provide proof of suitable insurance on my first day. Not really wanting to switch from Flux but has anyone else managed to insure the DC5 with minor mods and limited business cover in line with the above?

Thanks in advance for any help....

Isn't this normal if you don't specify social only etc. If you commute to work then you don't specify you're work address so that cover would be the journey from home to your place of work that day as that is your daily commute ???

Id never have thought of it differently as the way I see it is as long as your covered too and from your place if work then you're covered. So for example one week you work at A and the next week B then the cover is from home to A or B in my eyes.

I could be wrong as never had a need to drivectoobdnd from work etc but just my understanding

Hi Carl,

I think the way the insurers word it in a standard policy with commuting is "commuting to and from a fixed place of work" the fixed place being the office I'll be employed at, the satellite sites are classed as a different location and would require additional insurance if I travel to them from my fixed place of work to the satellite site.

I'm going to call Flux tomorrow and ask them to clarify what I'm covered for as I find it hard to believe I won't be covered for the little mileage and slight deviation in my journey, my total annual mileage including travelling for social miles, commuting to work and between sites won't even exceed 6,000 miles.

Will call the company too and ask them to advise the on what they require the certificate of insurance for and what they expect to see on it....

Carl, I think different to you

My thoughts are social and commute is for only one place of main work address, i.e. What's on your work contract to say office A.

If say you need to go see clients, or office B, C etc. Then you need business miles on top.

Surely for th op, you need social, commute and business?

Hi mate,

That's what I think they're expecting however Flux won't entertain it stating that their underwriters don't cater for business cover on there policies...

You can also give Greenlight and Sky a try. I've had business insurance with both in the past no issues :)

With you now, yeah luckily for me I only ever have to say social use as I work 15 mins walk from home, but agree what you mean reg commute and business diff as commute would be the journey too and from your main base of operations so to speak.

Never needed such and always thought business option as a whole would cover such, but now I recall when you get normal policies it says social and commute not business, my bad :)

Thanks for the recommendation. We can indeed offer business use on our modified/japanese import scheme if the Op wanted to try us for a quotation.

We are quote competitive on the DC5's :)

Kind regards
Neil

Sorry to go off topic slightly, but you're not always as 'quote competitive' as you make out. I had one car covered by you and purchased and imported my DC5 because you categorically told me you could cover me (as well as my other car).

When it came into the country, I rang you to say it was here and to take out a policy we had agreed (bearing in mind I knew the quote would fluctuate slightly due to the car being in transit), only for you to tell me you would not cover me at all. This left me in a less than ideal situation of having to organise insurance 48hrs before I needed to pick the car up.

Safe to say I took my other car elsewhere on renewal and saved over £300.00 compared to the renewal quote you gave me and I have exactly the same cover (including mods).

OP - Try talking to Jeremy at Keith Michaels. He specialises in these cars and was extremely helpful.

As per the last message here about such a comment sory to go off topic but I also had nothing but issues when calling you. Apparently myself and my partner did not have any or enough experience last year when I brought my DC5 for you to offer a quote let alone a competitive quote yet I have had a number of high performance modified cars (below is a VERY small selection of the list that she and I have owned).

Me - (2 x R33 GTR's 1 Stage 1 and the other a 800whp Nurspec 2 race car from Japan), 2 x GTI-R's (1 was 325whp and the other 400whp), (DC2 type R), (Lancia Delta HF Integrale), (GT4's St185 and ST205's), (EVO 6 GSR) and so on.

Her - (Subaru Impreza WRX STI), (EP3 Civic Type R), (Skoda Octavia VRS)

How we had no experience to be quoted on my hardly modded DC5 is beyond me or did I just get some clueless person on the line as my renewal is in Sept and I would be intrigued as to what prices you'd be able to offer bearing in mind I am paying £301 fully comp for us both now....

I spoke to Greenlight when renewing earlier in the year and they were double what Flux quoted me and the Flux insurance included Flex drive and future mods except for those that generate a power increase.

Will call Greenlight again to give you the opportunity to be "competitive" but not hoping for much....

Let us know how you get on mate as I have pretty much written them off when calling around in Sept but will be interesting if they will and can actually be good and competitive as they claim they can be.

Hi Tim,

I called your company just now and entered the options for obtaining a new quote, I was immediately asked to clear security providing my address etc. even though I've never had a policy with you, I explained this and it was still insisted upon.

After providing the details to clear "security" I was then told that because I start my job in a months time they can't quote as they work on a 21 day window, I asked the guy on the phone if he could then quote on the 21 day limit so that if I was happy with the quote I could simply insure the car a week or so earlier and end my other policy which he was very reluctant to do.

He then tried to palm me off onto a colleague and it turned out they were all busy, after that he offered to "quickly" put my details in to see what comes back which I refused to do as I would like to go through my needs and the cars modifications in detail and in a timely manner rather than rushing through and ending up with an inaccurate quote I have no confidence in.

He then put the phone down on me!

A bit embarrassing really.....

What is it with these companies, the ones that are of no use to us we should remove from the forum as they just seem to be wasting peoples time with their (we can offer competitive quotes etc) when in reality they are a lot of the time the worst out there...

Sorry Tim but if this is how potential customers are treat when your company are trying to win new business then god knows what sort of problems and stress a customer may face in the unfortunate event of an accident when trying to make a claim, on that note I won't be wasting any more of my time!

Had an interesting conversation with Nigel from Greenlight who was extremely helpful and quoted me a fair price (£439) that covers business use, all mods declared and potential future mods quoted in for info (most apart from power increases carried no additional cost).

Yes they were more expensive than Flux however the service seems to be exceptional and it's nice to speak to someone who understands the car you're insuring and the associated Mods...

Whilst we're on with Flux I rang them to check what my refund would be, for a policy that cost me £301 with Flex drive at the end of Feb they were initially only going to refund me £118, after complaining they offered me £143 back blaming the rest of the loss on the brokers deductions, I think the initial offer was shocking considering I'm only moving away from them due to them not being able to accommodate my needs....

Not really sure who else I can ring so will more than likely settle with Greenlight....

St least someone at green light seems to know what they are doing then, I'm still in two minds whether to try them after their comments before around lack of experience.

The DC5 is one of the least powerful cars I've ever owned lol...
