Car Alarm Question

Hi all,

Bit of a random question but I can‘t anything on Google about this so I though I‘d ask all you clever people.

When my car was imported it was fitted with a Cobra alarm when it got to the UK (because apparently the standard alarm isn‘t good enough or not recognised or something).

Anyway... it has the ugliest fob and immobiliser that have to be on my key and it really annoys me to look at it. I like to travel light and have the car key and my front door key. Not only that but it only uses one button, I.e the same bottom locks and unlocks the car, which is a bit crap if you‘re not sure if you‘ve locked it or not.

My questions are:

1. Is the standard alarm still not good enough or not recognised? If it‘s acceptable, I can chin the Cobra off and just use the standard key

2. Does anybody make an aftermarket system that can use the standard key?

First world problems eh?

Any help, as usual would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What car do you have? Facelift? The Prefacelift doesn't have a alarm or immobiliser

The standard alarm on the Integra isn't classed under Cat 1 which is minimum requirement from most modified insurance specialist.. your policy will still be valid but they just won't cover you under theft if you have it removed..

There are no aftermarket systems that'll be used with the standard key.. but! You can get a standard non remote key with transponder to go with your alarm fob to reduce your pocket weight :)

I never had anyone ask for an additional alarm to be fitted to my facelift and never met anyone withw an aftermarket alarm on one either. I don't know where this "your insurance isn't valid for theft" comes from either 🙄

Read policy documents.. I've been with Sky Insurance and Brentacre, both specifically mention it, and ask for the alarm certificate to be emailed with the other documents..

As long as you make it clear to them what alarm you have and ask them about the cover it's fine. They might increase the price or use a different underwriter but you don't need to go fitting a second alarm system. If they won't cover the factory alarm just go elsewhere, why would someone pay for insurance that doesn't cover theft? 😂

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Some people still buy insurance without declaring their mods knowing if they get pulled, their insurance would get void 😂

Save yourself the hassle mate, I'm an auto electrition by trade.
Just get anti hijack fitted and/or a tracker with remote cut out.
All I need to do it's call tracker company they disable the car and call police for you and get vehicle recovered back to you
