Handbrake light

The car I am going to view and hopefully buy next weekend has the handbrake light on, the owner has said it is down to a handbrake cable sensor being sticky from being parked up so much. Could this be a hidden expensive issue and a chance of it being lot more or is there not much to is and only a few easy things that could cause the handbrake light to stay on?

Usually a little switch on the side of the handbrake that either makes or breaks a circuit to turn the light on if the owner is confident it's the switch then ask them to grease it to free it up but I couldn't say how much a new switch could be but it's easy enough to test its that
