I've been searching for insurance quotes over the past few days. I'm 21 with 4 years no claims and 1 year DC5 experience.

Spoken to Sky who were okay but wanted £25 every time a mod was added.

Then spoken to Brentacre who were fantastic, offered me a fantastic price at £1180 which is down from £1980 with Adrian Flux.

Would highly recommend Brentare really good people to deal with.

Contact Greenlight who basically didn't want to know. Practically refused to insure me and that the quote was only valid for the phonecall and wouldn't quote me again for 12 months. What a joke.

We actually spoke to your mum, we explained to her our minimum age for DC5's is usually 23 but as you have owned the car for a year we could do a bespoke referal to our underwriters. We couldnt do this without speaking to you (the policyholder). Your mum was going to call us back....We havent even provided a price yet?

Its shame as we got an absolutely amazing price back from our underwriters in the end will under £1000 including free modifications and £45 per day track cover, we were just waiting for you to call back so we could get the underwriters to provide the bespoke quote reference to approve the quote at 21.

Not sure if there has been some crossed wires between your mum and operator. I assume when my colleague ran the quote it initially declined with you being 21 and then he suggest looking at a bespoke referral route?.

if you were 23 (our minimum age) we wouldnt need to do a bespoke referral we could of just quoted immediately without underwriter approval.

Kind regards
Neil

We would need to speak to you regarding the policy anyway mate so if youve already done it with Brentacre then not to worry.

As far as we were concerned we were just waiting for you to get in touch so we could get you the price

^ Lol that's pretty awkward :?

But I've had issues with Greenlight quoting me. First I had to have owned the teg for a year. Tried again at 25 with owning the teg for 2 years and was told that my postcode was too risky and that the company policy was to not quote anyone from my postcode (that was me literally just saying the first 3 letters of my postcode and being rejecting within seconds :xconfused:) . Just seems like a lot of hurdles to jump for a quote.

Equally there are many on here who are happy with the service by Greenlight. I guess it is what it is.

But I got an amazing quote from Brentacre too for just over £400 with all mods declared etc.

Hi Neil,

I think this possibly the case. I'll speak to her now as that was what she told me. We'll call you back tomorrow if that's ok?

Haha tell me about it! Although awkward hopefully it sorts out the confusion!

I will admit I didn't ring Greenlight as been busy at work. ☺

When you can jump those hurdles there's often a cheaper price waiting the other side....Like Sam has found out ;)

We cant win them all but if we can help a few people get better rates then thats a good thing

I've been with brentacre for 8+ years now, always been the cheapest for me, and were brilliant for the wife when someone went in to the back of her EP3, so i've stopped ringing round for quotes as other companies just seem like too much hassle. 😅

I suppose my age doesn't help, but I do have 4 years no claims and a year experience in a DC5.

Still can't go over the fact it's actually halved because of 1 year difference...

Insurance is all risk. Claim stats will show anyone's risk is higher when they don't have performance car experience.

There's a lesson here somewhere about getting your parents to do stuff that you should really handle yourself lol.

Why is it a lesson? I was at work that morning and didn't want to sit on the phone to insurance companies when I got in.

After much consideration I've decided to go with Brentacre anyway. Happy to remove the comments about Greenlight which I'll do now.

It was similar with me Sam to be honest except my first year was way cheaper than yours.

I am also 23 and got my Teg when I was 21. I had 3 years prior no-claims and I got my first year with Bell for £1200 - Black box for the first 3 months LOL... then they actually gave me £80 back for good driving!

My Second year I was still with them, this time it was £900 and no box, but the third year I decided to change as the policy was quite nasty. £1200 excess and just overall something catered for first time drivers which really doesn't suit the Teg.

I fished around for various specialist quotes this August having 2 years in the DC5 and 5 years NCB, Brentacre were about £100 cheaper than Green-light for me, I think it was about £850 with extras.

Edit: Maybe I should have got my mum to ring and I'd have got a better quote!
