So just heard from the insurance company today and my cars a cat c, thanks to some idiot coming around a corner too fast, spinning out and smashing into the side of me. They said the repairs are 6000?! they also offered me 3682 for the car which I said is a joke. So Im not sure what to do now. I've sent them other ads of similar dc5's so hopefully ill get more money than that. has anyone else had theirs written off and can offer some advise on what to do?!

also thinking about going to get the car and break it, not sure if I'll recover much money that way but is a thought. mainly as they offered me 360 to take the car from me and scrap it, which im sure they wont! I paid 650 for the regu exhaust this time last year so might be worth getting just to take that off!

what a excrement start to christmas!

Shocking to hear mate. Hope it all goes well. Don't budge an inch until you can replace like for like.

does it need a rear 1/4 , a or b pillar or sill then ? thats the only way the repair bill would be that high , cant you get a quote from someone like TGM ? its easier for them to write the cars off, give you 3800, sell the car to a breaker for 1500 so in effecr they only spent 2300 .

post up a couple of pictures ?

i'll get a couple of pics up, also have a video of the crash from my dash cam! from what the report said it was just cosmestic, but included front bumper, os front wing, os headlight, windscreen, os door, handle and wing mirror, and repair to os rear quarter and rear bumper, and both os wheels. although the main impact was where the front wing meets the door so would have thought it would have pushed the fire wall a bit?

Sorry to hear that dude, defo right to reject that offer and wait it out, which insurance company are you with?

Also might be worth looking through this forum as I'm sure this happened to somone not long ago and green light gave some good inside advice of what happens insurence side. Worth a look.

Hope you get it sorted dude, defo get the car back and sell the bits, engine and gearbox would be worth a few grand to start with.

ouch, it would depend how badly the a pillar is damaged at the bottom i guess, i would definately get a second quote from a bodyshop and submit it to them ,

Their insurance company will push you to settle the claim, but don't back down! You know what it would cost to replace. They may not even have a dc5 on their system and are using dc2 figures.

You are also entitled to ask for it to be repaired. Probably not the best thing to do as being a cat c devalues it a lot.

You've just got to hold out for a decent pay out and buy it back to re-coup some more funds. Might be surprised how little they ask for.

im with sky insurance, although they passed me over to kindertons pretty quickly and they have the car at their yard which is about an hour and a half away from me, i asked about buying it back and they said i can just go and take it?! but then reminded me of all the hassle of going to collect it and they would do me a huge favour and sort it out for me and give me 300 or something!

my first dc5 got written off as ig got hydrolocked in a flood ( i admit no damage as such) but they were saying that it needed a new engine ect.....i paid £6500 for the car and admril offered £6000 to write it off.... i stood my ground and kept saying no to what they were offering but then they came back offering £9000 in the end so i took it!

i would just see how much you can get out of them mate and if your happy take it

really bad luck tho mate!! hope you sort it out one way or another!!

They should have to provide evidence of where they think they can get a replacement car for £3k :xhaha2: If they cant it should be fraud and they are lying. Drives me potty this "lets offer them a fiver and hope they take it!" nonsense.

Tell them to shuv it and you are happy clocking up miles in a hire car at their expense until they sort their lives out.

Keep us all posted and we can see how the insurance company plays and advertise how they handle their customers. Email them a link to this thread too ;)

Stand your ground and demand more money. Do not accept it even if you have to go back and forth.

Why is it down to your insurance if you are not at fault?

So you're insured with Sky who are meant to be a specialist broker and they've offered £3,800?

Country road it will nearly always go down as 50:50 fault claim, unless the other party admits fault or there are witnesses.
