Just went through my yearly insurance renewal

I was with Need to Insure, great company. But their renewal came out, as expected, at £104 more than last year.

Phoned my usual companies, Keith Michael, Sky Insurance, Greenlight, Herts insurance, Need to Insure and A-plan/Thatchams.

A-plan didn't get near last years price and didn't get back to me 2nd time around when I have a better quote, Keith Michael were useless at getting back to me, Greenlight were around £40 below last years quote, but then both Sky insurance and Need to Insure beat Greenlight (whom couldn't go any lower) by another £29 and were tied.

Then Herts insurance came along with more extras, lower excess and a further reduction on my best quote by reducing it by another £45.

So phoning around and bartering saved me £205 on my renewal and dropped another £101 from last years actual insurance cost.

Year after year it's always Sky Insurance or Need to Insure, but this year Herts insurance came up trumps as they have a specialised modified Honda scheme apparently.

Will give them a call as well...I just had a quote on my second car which is a Honda insight which cost me nearly 1.3k!

Does anyone know who does the best joint car insurance as well as performance? Chris Knott don't do joint and my renewal for the DC5 is around 600 sucks living near London.

Never heard of HIC, how did you come across them? Any reviews from other owners forums?

Sky, NOPE.

Am with Greenlight and they've been good to me so far.

Tried a quote with hic but the guy didn't know what an Integra dc5 was, and also that it wasn't an import :(

I had this at Greenlight today, went away to get a quote, came back and said is it an import then was put on hold for a few minutes again! Only jumped £120 going from a EK9 to DC5 with all mods declared.

Sorry guys, I must have been drunk or just having a retarded moment. I meant to say Herts Insurance, not HIC. Doh. Edited my original post.

Lol think you got the whole forum searching up hic, as I was also one of them before! Haha oh well, I ended up with Greenlight insurance, seem very good since only power mods affect the price!

Just checked - This is the website https://www.hertsinsurance.com/ but they do call themselves HIC, so hopefully some did find the company.

Brentacre has always been cheaper than anyone else for me, So last year i didn't even waste my time as they had beaten everyone else for the previous 6 years lol.

I recommend Brent Acre. They quoted me a good 300quid cheaper then my existing insurer and they are super helpful and know their stuff when it comes to modding Hondas. Anything that doesn't increase power (bhp) was free!

Tried getting a quote from Green light for this year, without luck.... again. Last year I hadn't owned my car for a year and now this year they won't ensure my post code. Never had that issue before :(

Whoever you go with, make sure Markerstudy aren't the underwriters. Complete crooks.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter who the broker is in the event of a claim, do your research on underwriters.

This, I've seen so many bad reviews on the underwriters that put me off using these brokers. I remember seeing a guy trying to get a payout for his DC5 and his insurers were quoting on non-Type R's lol

However there's also the "top" insurers who are a pita to deal with in the event of a claim.

When I wrote my last DC5 off, after months of waiting for them to do anything, they offered me about £3500. I queried it and I was sent a report by the so called qualified engineer including screen grabs of DC2 adverts. I queried it and I was told 'well it's an Integra, what more do you want'. The broker was Sky who were as useful as a waterproof towel. Till this day I avoid Sky if I can and always, always avoid Markerstudy even if it means it'll cost me £200 or whatever extra. It's not just me either, there's loads of such posts on other forums and a mate of mine had a similar experience.

In contrast when I wrote my S2000 off this year I had a pay-out within three weeks of over and above the market value of the car, the underwriter were Highway/LV and they were superb. My broker is Greenlight and I didn't have to contact them except at the end and I had no complaints. Cheap track day cover as well.

The problem with forums is that people always say 'I was with x/y/z and they were fine'. What they mean is that it was easy to pay a load of money for a policy which was never tested. Of course it should be easy getting insurance, the broker is making money of you regardless.

I guess I should stop writing off cars. :D

Marker study are the main underwriters for a lot of the brokers who insure our kind of cars.

They were my underwriter at both flux and a plan.

I'm now with green light so no need to worry I guess!

Of course they are, they are one of the few underwriters in the country.

Greenlight sell Markerstudy policies.

I used to be with Sky and so did my old flatmate. Never again.

Kindertons were the underwriter.

Won't go into boring details but the last issue was when they refused to let my old flatmate have the work required carried out at TGM (spray job from keying).

Also, good luck getting through to them. Whenever I used to call I had to go through to the wrong department to reach current policies as they would never ever pick up.

Greenlight now.
