Hi people,

I am currently using Mugen ECU now in my DC5 but though of changing it. Will it be better if I change to a programmable one? I was thinking that because the Mugen one is pre set to suit some modifications and the weather in Japan is different from the weather in Malaysia which is hot all year. So can anyone please advise me on this.

Thank you very much

Lucky guy running the Mugen ECU, I don't believe anyone in the UK is running a Mugen or Spoon ECU at the moment let alone a F-Con S...

What are your thoughts on the Mugen chip ??

Did you notice any gains at all? did you have the car on the Rolling Road...

Maybe you could write a quick review as i'm sure other people here would be interested to hear about it...

Dare i ask what other mods you have made to you car ??

The Mugen ECU is very impressive. It gives you the feeling of high cams, it pulls gradually from 5300 all the way till 8500, very much powerful than the original. U will feel the difference straight away, its like modifying turbo cars. U will feel that everything in your car is calibrated perfectly, even the battery voltage is very stable. But one drawback is that if you want to do further hardcore modifications, it will be very hard to calibrate the Mugen with your modifications. I just got my car 3 months ago, not much things inside yet, just have a Hayabusa exhaust system, Mugen air box and HKS ground wire. I have tested the car on the Sepang Circuit, the handling is perfect, basically u can whack any evo's on the corners. So there's no need to change the suspension system yet. Wait till I destroy the original one first. Heheh. One thing that I have heard around is DC5s with 18" wheels always will result to a change of body kits. The car will understeer too much. Don't know whether is it true or not? One more thing which I have tested is the octane boosters. It destroys your spark plugs very fast. I think after every dose of these steroids u will need to change your spark plugs if not it will cause misfires.

For track work use 15" rims as it helps the gearing.

I would have a programable ECU over the Mugen everytime, you need to be able to change the map, espeacily if you are going for Cams, etc, and the K20a can rev safely to 8900, so 8500 seems a little low.

What fuel do you get in Malaysia?

In the UK we have 98Ron, I used to use Octane Booster only on track, not needed on the road in an N/A, desireable, but not essential.

I would do the suspension first this is IMHO the best way to get more out of all the Type R's.

15" will be better but it doesn't look nice though on a street car. One of my friend just ordered a set of brake conversion kit to fit 15" rims from Mardi Gras, but that set is for his track car.

In Malaysia, i think the RON is the same as in UK. Optimax- UK, V-Power- Malaysia. I just found out that there is this thing, which is lead, it will maintain your fuel to 100 RON. Going to put those tea bags into the tank later.

Can get the F-Con from Mr Nana in Option i think, he deals with HKS stuff.

I saw a set of Buddy Club Racing Spec absorbers today, selling for around 750pounds second hand. Very tempted, but too bad hav got a hole in my wallet now, so just have to wait till later. After getting the absorbers will have to get a set of either TE37 or CE28 and a new spoiler. A lot to do, so little money. Sighhhh...

Mdma are you based in Malaysia? You seem to know the company's in the UK.

I would recommend 15" rims for track work, and keep the 17"' rims for road.

Dick at Mardi Gras Racing is a fantastic resource of information, do you know of Mardi Gras from there race EP3 which is racing out there at the moment.

£750 thats a bargin.

What are TE37 or CE28 ? Buddy Club different types.

I was in England for 5 years for my degree. Am also one of the Honda-r members.

I know about the EP3. It's on one of the magazines. So that car is setup by Mardi issit??

Volk Racing TE37 and CE28 is the 2 very popular rims here. By Rays Engineering. Very light and nice, but of course cannot compare to the Mugen rims. Mugen is Mugen.

Nope, mine is black very original outside, just a couple of stickers here and there.

When I get the photos sorted out then maybe I'll post it here. Hehhe.

Has anyone taken their CAT out from the car yet??

I am currently using the Mugen air box. I have tried a couple of induction kits, Blitz, Top Fuel, M's racing, even without the original box.

Not much difference in power, but the Mugen box looks much better as it makes the engine compartment looks more compact. Some of the DC5s I know are using K&N replacement filters.

Taking off the CAT (produces aome kind of sound like blow offs) improves the top end but the 2 sensors must be attached back. J's Racing has got a downpipe for DC5, bigger diameter all the way from 2 till the CAT. Seems that it increases around 18bhp. Ordered mine, waiting for it to come. Heheheh.

Interesting that you have tried a few different air boxes and come back to the Mugen..

From what i remember this only really works best with the Mugen bumper... are you using that also ???

The people using the K&N filters.. is that a drop in or an open filter like the 57i kit ??

At the moment i am finding that with Mugen unless you buy the whole kit.. items in isolation dont work that well...

Very few companies in the UK will actually put proven gains for power against a product which doesnt help either...

I saw the downpipe in Hyper Rev, everything is in Japanese and I dunno how to read it. Anyway, J's Racing is the only manufacturer (well, it shows in the mag) for 2-1 exhaust in the magazine. The product is tested on dyno and shows an increament of 21.9ps and 1.3kg-m. I will try to find the part number for the downpipe.

Mine is not here yet, I'll tell you guys about it when it arrives.

Those guys are using the drop in K&N filters.

I am still using the original bumper. I heard that there's a product from 5 zigen that goes to the upper part of the grille. It seems that there's an opening directly to the feeding tube. If it is true then it would be better, don't need to change bumper. hehehe...

Hi everyone...I'm a newbie here.....what a great website!!
I wish we can have something like this over here in Hong Kong..Unfortunately because of our insurance problems there aren't many DC-5 Rs on the road here.....

I am currently using the MUGEN ECU also.......I must say it is the best piece of kit on my car!! Those who buy it has to be aware that there are 2 types of MUGEN E.C.U for sale...one is the HOA (Honda One make race Association Spec) VTEC point: 5,250rpm...fuel cut 8600 rpm....This is the E.C.U they use for DC5 one make Race. The other is N1 Spec...VTEC point: 5,300rpm....fuel cut 9100 rpm. The HOA Spec can also be modified by MUGEN to N1 Spec. Right now I am using the HOA spec E.C.U. One thing that you have to be careful of is increased torque steer in 1st and 2nd gear!!
Cheers...
