My experience with 200bhpcars.

This is a small note of my experience with the company 200bhp cars.

I contacted these guys way back in march of 2010, leaving them with a message of that i was in the market for either an r34 gtt, or an s15 spec r.

Andy contacted me a week later and started the ball rolling with importing me one.

My requirements were quite simple, i wanted one that had a good well looked after engine with no issues, a car with a decent interior, and straight panels on the car, i also added that i 'didnt mind having to paint a bumper and skirt if the price was right as that is my trade.

So andys reply was simple, he could source me a car in that area, that fitted what i wanted, just a £500 deposit was needed to start the searching.

After a few days of payment there was no real contact as there was a japanese crazy holiday, so i stayed patient and waited. In the mean time i had access to the japanese auctions so i could search for one too.

I came across around 5-6 that looked like they suited my budget and my needs, so emailed these over to andy and asked what my chances were.
Andy's reply was very much i think they are slightly out of budget but 'he'll try to find out more'.

That never materialised, so i found a few more and repeated the procedure, again, no luck.

This carried on for around 1 month to 6 weeks, in that time andy had only found 1-2 cars (that we didnt win).

So after me getting second thoughts, i contacted andy to ask if my budget is to low or am i being too optimistic? Andy reasured me the right car will come along and to bear with him.So i did.

But again, after nearly a 6 week wait and barely no contact with 200bhp cars and after me emailing over 30 cars going through japanese auctions, only 2 were looked at by andys agent.

So, i set a deadline, if the right car hadnt been sourced by mid june, then il be pulling the plug as i had lost all faith and wanted the car for the final weeks of what summer we had left, i wanted the car for mid august. Andy said this was a good deadline to aim for and that he would be able to deliver that.

Cars come and gone with no winning bids or out of budget, again i sent over at least 50 cars that i had found MYSELF.

With 2 days left of the deadline i sent andy a list of 6 cars, andy found a silver s15 in need of a bumper painting and rear bumper smart repairing, so i gave the thumbs up to bid for it.

We finally won that car, so full payment needed to be made. So i payed it within 3 days in cash, directly into his bank.

Andy also noted to me that he could source second hand rims at a good price and get them in the car so they arrive when the car does.

Again i searched jap auctions for the rims and new seats so i could really get it looking special.

Once again without fail, it was near impossible to get any reply from 200bhp cars through email, phone or text.

6 weeks went by with barely no reply form 200bhp, so it got me worried, had this guy ran off with my money and sent me pictures of a phantom car?

August came and i had no arrival date or any form of reply. Then i got a text saying it was due around the 19th of august.

That day came and apparentely it hadnt docked, so could be a few more days.

After 2 weeks of the same excuse, andy finally said my car had arrived, but customs would not release it for some unknown reason, this went on for another week.

Then finally my car was released, but andy couldnt work on it until he had sorted a small fire that had broke out in one of the mazda bongos he had converted with a full kitchen, and was devoting all his time and effort into that as it was due out 2 days previously, but did say he would have mine started within the next few days.

10 days passed with still no car, so i had to ask what was going on, he said he had sorted the bongo and was getting ready to start my car for collection by the weekend. Again without fail i was let down.

So i said enough was enough and im coming to collect the car.

So mid september on a friday it was arranged that the car will be ready for collection. So i made a move at 5 in the morning with my mate to make the 5 hour journey from reading to newcastle.

Being one hour from his address i received a text to say i would need to meet him at jm-imports as thats where the car will be. so we carried on our journey to the alternate address.

Being we had no idea of the area we took a wrong turn and in the distance see what seemed to be my car on the side of the road with the bonnet up and the hazards flashing, so we drove towards it, it was my car and it was andy explaining that he had pulled over to make sure the air con condensor was functioning properly, but we had to follow him up to the workshop.

The minute we pulled up beside the car i could see that something was seriously wrong,

~The bonnet was warped, flat, dented
~the wings were rippled, cracked, scraped
~The bumper was barely together, and only bolted on one side
~The sideskirts were cracked all through, scraped, missing bits!
~The rear bumper was stress cracked all over
~The passenger door had lacquer runs from top to bottom

So my dissapointment must have shown as andy just walked off, knowing in my mind these were just cosmetic i knew i could make the acr a whole lot better but with A BIG amount of money needed.

I could have walked away but i wanted that car, and was just happy to know that i had actually bought a car and not funded a scammer.

We walked in to jm-imports where jurgen introduced himself and said feel free to use the ramps to get the new rims and tyres fitted as the originals were well worn. So andy and me set about doing it.

Thats when andy then explained there was no locking wheel nut key and no spanners for the coilovers, and also that one of the studs on the back was rounded off meaning no wheel nut could be fittted.

Anyway the car was on new rims and looked 100x better instantly, so i began the paper work with andy and payed the existing £400 left owing for longer tax (which andy done an extra 6 months for just £50 for the long wait and hassle)

Andy left with his wife/girlfriend and iwas left with a car i hadnt even test drove or even looked under the bonnet, so i started it up and drove off.

Something was seriously wrong right from the off, the car wouldnt boost, was laggy to hell, a bit of steam rose from the bonnet and it was cutting out constantly, so i drove back to jm-imports.

These guys were fantastic and helped me in every way possible trying to make the car good enough for it to get home, in the mean time i made a call to 200bhp cars, explaining all the faults and im considering asking for my full money back as his site guarantees. Andy said for me to leave it there and he will get the problem sorted.

So i drove all the way back to reading and left the car with jm-imports.

4 weeks went passed and jurgen rang me to explain what they had tried and tested and what bits had been replaced, he also made me aware andy had that day collected the car as he thought he could repair it, so i made the call to andy asap and said thats it, im collecting the car from him within 2 days.

When i got back there to collect it, i had an agreement with andy that im willing to wave the cosmetic repairs but he will have to help out on the mechnical repairs of what was left as this was an area i had no idea. Andy agreed and i drove away with the car on a recovery truck.

Fast forward 3months and the whole car was cosmetically overhauled which included new front bumper, bonnet, wings etc.

So i contacted andy and said ive sorted the body and will be getting horsham developments to sort the running issue, they found the problem and spent hours mapping and setting the car to a safe condition, the bill was jsut over £800 including a service of all fluids.

Andy then agreed to pay around £200 for the mechanical repairs.

That was over 4 weeks ago and i havent seen a penny, dont get a reply and quite frankly expected this.

In the time that i collected the car i have found out many stories of my car.

Firstly.
~My car was in the country the first week of august & it was sat in the docks for over 6 weeks as payment had'nt been made to drive it away.

~ Andy never had a mazda bongo fire at his so called workshop as he didnt even have a workshop atthe time and worked from home, but still didnt have a bongo at the time.

~ 200bhpcars is folded every year as andy does this to make sure there is no tax paid and all profit goes direct to him and the tax man gets 0

This is only my experience, many others may have had a good one, maybe even a great one, but i, have definatley had a bad one.

The car now stands me in at just over £16k, with andy paying maybe £100 in total back to me, thats just to get it in a safe stable good driveable condition.

I kept my mouth shut for a long time about this as i held out hope of andy maybe redeeming himself slightly, but what i have found is that andy lives a playboy lifestyle, pretending to be your friend, making out he will bend over backwards for you, leading you into a false sense of security.

I have been well and truely shafted by 200bhp cars and to be honest feel stupid knowing that i should have listen'd to instinct telling me they are having me on.

What i have learnt is that to get a good car, from a good import company is difficult and you have to do research before, and if i ahd have done that, theres only a handful of people you can trust, and 200BHPCARS is not the one to trust.

Good effort taking the time to write that up. Shame to hear about your bad experience..... i read a similar story about an imported evo 6 that put me right off buyig a fresh import. the guy put it in for a touch up on the rear bumper and when they got the bumper off, they found that the car was rotting from the inside, ended up costing him £3k to repair the rust because it wasnt undersealed as they stated...

You've got your car now though.... :xyes: Im sure you'll look after it. you got any before and after pics? would be good to see the work you've done to it....

Did you look into importing a car yourself? rather than going through a middle man such as Andy?

Just had a heads up about this thread from a previous customer of mine and thought i best reply...

Ok, (sigh) with regards to this S15 Wayne, you know i worked damn hard to find you a car with your ever changing requirements as well as the nightmare scinerio of you having your own access to the auctions instead of you leaving us to do our job there was a constant stream of emails and calls saying what about this car when you can only see the pics and have no idea what the grade sheet says or what the car is like on inspection.

Also mate, if you recall you were one of our few customers who stated "condition doesnt matter to me - i work in a body shop so Grade R, or panel damage paintwork required is not a problem) again this should have set of alarm bells with me and i should have just said we couldnt help right there and then (i can understand why duncs turned you down to import a car for you now as this from experience is a nightmare scinerio)

Anyway wayne there really is no point me firing back insults on here as it will probably fall on deaf ears as for your accusations of

A. Me not having a premesis, B Not owning a mazda Bongo and thus not having a issue with it and lastly some issue about the 200bhp company being folded every year - Yes mate there all true - you obviously have a fantastic read on the situation (wow!! )

Weve made a net loss of £390 on all the time work and effort getting your the car that YOU chose in japan on the road here in the UK. Yes we had issues with it, its a 12 year old modified drift car Grade R which you knew, yes we were unlucky with the boost issue and the quality of the car in general (chance you take when your importing this sort of car) - our agent even said - "look i cant vouch for this type of car, there too risky" i wish id listened to him and not bothered m8. Im not blaming you though fella, you made a choice - it turned out a bad one and you feel let down - i get it. Im pleased you havent brought Jurgens name in to this as he was doing me a favour helping you out with a car he has more experience with... despite his failings to find the problem with your car. (also mate i like the comment "Andy & I" set about fitting your new wheels.... lol, you mean Andy took 45mins to change the wheel single handed whilst you stood outside on the phone and smoking cigarettes - thats why i left Jm in hurry after spending 3 hrs there as i had to go.)

Anyhow fella, as i said - iv not really got a bad word to say to ya, i shouldnt have agreed to import you the car in the first place - we specialise in JDM Honda Type R's and now Bespoke JDM camper Van conversions. Weve got a great reputation with our chosen specialty and i know that despite your experience with us that our customer service is of a high standard.....

I wish you all the best with your s15 mate and as previously mentioned i will certainly take this experience as a lesson of what NOT to import in the future...

Kind Regards,

Andy
200bhp

p.s - since the market crash in 2008, the japanese Yen to GBP rate has stayed at a 25year low and approximately 1/2 the value that is was in 2007. for this reason we have taken the decision to drastically downsize our Import business to only encompass

A. Importing Stock to Order - Honda DC5's/EK9's/DC2's/FD2's and anything else on request (NOT as from 09/03/2011 anything modified/grade R/accident damaged or special order without upfront understanding of No warranty on collection policy - weve had this policy in place for years with RX7's for obvious reasons)

B. Creating bespoke Mazda Bongo Friendee Camper Conversions (this is going particularly well and hopefully might turn a profit this year).

Unfortunatly 200bhp as it was in 2008 is no more and will never be again unless there is a drastic change in international money markets.

Also - we lost circa £15,000 of my own savings in 2008 when the markets crashed (we'd bought stock for customers and the exchange rate dropped 35% over 2 days and instead of not paying our agent or making the customers pay - we made the tough choice to import the £40K worth of stock anyway and make a loss on each car :( )

Im not in business NOT to enjoy myself or to flog a dead horse because its all i know, however we remain in business for anyone looking for 1 of the 2 above services we can offer and we allways will be regarding the OEM high spec Type R's....

All the best,

Andy

lol, sorry didnt want to re post but just re-read your comment "andy lives a playboy lifestyle" and couldnt NOT comment!!!

If you call working 60hr weeks, barely turning a profit and "just" being able to afford a night out with the misus and have the baby watched 1 every 6 weekends then Yes - i am the personification of a playboy lifestyle... WOW!!! ](*,)

 Sorry to hear this mate i got my car from Andy and although it was not imported at the time it was a trade in he seemed a nice guy although he did say to me he was working from home as his unit had a water leak and was under refurb.

Hope your luck changes for the better.

I understand your comment there andy and i would love for everyone to see you as there knight in shining armour.

But reality is andy, u lied to me from the word go, i have tried contacting you on several occasions but there is NEVER any answer or solution to the problem you gave me.

You have also completely steered round the subject of maybe reimberssing me some of the money YOU agreed to pay back.

Typerdunc would have gladly imported me a car to my spec, but with him only being able to find me s15's in the market of around 11k, i had to shop around.

The panel damage i asked for? My requirements were for a small amount of paintwork, not a car that hardly had a front end bolted on, not a car that would NOT boost, not a car that looked as though it had been through a forest before arriving, but as i said, out of my own stupidity, I took all this on the chin.

Do i also need to show people the text you sent me on the saturday after i had initially come to pick the car up?
Remember the text i sent you asking if you would sort the oil leak? The water leak? The boost problem?

And what was your reply andy? It was i will only fix the boosting problem and thats it.

That car didnt cost any more than 6k on the road and you know it, you made a healthy profit and left me in mounds of debt.

But thats not the bit that i care its the bit of you still acting like this has cost you money and that you tried your best to sort the problems, because through out the whole time you done f*** all.

Andy do you not see it right to just reimberse me for some of the money i had to spend on the car to egt it running right? Like YOU and I agreed?

I honestly didnt want to do this, as im genuinely not this type of guy, i hate confrontation and i ahte the fact ive had to stoop to your level to make my dealings with 200bhp cars heard

Lol the car is finally thank god mechanically running well and all niggles have been put to bed.

As an asking price? I have no idea, i think 10.5k would be a fair amount to set out for, but obviously be more open to a few close offers.

Back to topic

I never wanted to do this, its not in my character, its just with a no reply and no contact from andy, i feel i had to do this just so it'd bring it back into andy's eyeline to get the issue sorted.

Andy and i had an agreement, whatever the mechanical repair costs were, he would pay up to half for them, im not even asking for that, im only asking a quarter, on my own back, even though im already thousands down.

Surely a man that makes a gentlemans agreement should stick to it?

All i want is what was promised to me.

Im prepared to back Andy up, he has always been a man of his word with me, he imported me a jdm ep3, the cel was on when it arrived, and he bought allsorts of replacement new parts till we got to the bottom of it.

Top man who i wouldnt hesitate to contact if i was considering importing another type r of any sort, he has also sourced me replacement genuine oem dc5 parts from japan at a fraction of the uk dealership cost

seems youve had a bad experience mate, its definately most unusual for this to happen from Andy, but there is a huge thread on here from happy customers who all have nothing but praise for him

I have had good dealings with andy too and I pick up my mint ek9 next week from him .

I was clear with my requirements a mint ek9 no heavy mods and no marks on the interia and I left him to doing what he does best and picking me a good car ,I myself felt frustrated waiting for the right car we was looking since november ,but andy explained he would rather loose my order than not get the righ car which i was impressed with .

I know what its like when you want a car so bad every week I was hoping for a match but we eventually got a car purchased in japan on jan 28th and on the ship and I have no regretts at all dealing with andy ,some other importers may have bought a lower standard car just to get things rushed and the sale processed but andy didnt

I would be happy to recommend andy to any or my friends if your clear with what you want and your willing to wait for the right car

I've entrusted Andy with over £60k of my cash and cannot rate him highly enough.

Yes he is a small business ie just him, which means he can sometimes be difficult to get in-touch with, and yes he now works from home, but this is of benefit to his customers as he's trying to keep his overheads as low as possible in light of the tough economic conditions that we are currently blighted with.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience Wayne, but it is contradictory to all of my dealings with Andy.

Chris.

Ok the situation has been rectified now, andy contacted me and has refunded me half the amount for the mechanical repairs.

I think i may have been to quick to moan about the service and actually had ony given andy 3 weeks and 3 days to refund me the money.

I would also like to add i never enjoyed doing this, its the last thing i wanted to do, and now realise that what i have actually done is made a situation worse than better.

So id like to apologise to anyone that has been put off, and would also request the mods lock/remove this post as i feel it unfair to leave it like this.

Thanks

Wayne

I'd say that there is no call for what you have just done! Fair enough you bought a pup, your mistake not andy's, you requested that car and said condition was not important!

You have to be very careful with forums as you can ruin a companies reputation. And look at that, it was an unjustified post. I think you should feel ashamed of yourself and should go back to the rock you crawled out from.

S15 does look nice now tho and i wish you the best with that.

Id like to think your posting the sane retraction on the other forums you've posted this thread on.......

Personally I think it's good to post both postive and negative views of dealings with a supplier/dealership. Quite an insightful post but also in light of the circumstances a full retraction should be forthcoming from wayne, and I think if anything the original post was a bit too personal.

S15 looks stunning. But in all fairness asking for a grade R car is too damn risky.

For the record, this hasn't put me off dealing with 200bhp in the future. I hope to be getting an FD2 soon, as may start being sensible for kids etc in the future.

I'm glad this has been sorted :xkiss:

I will not remove this thread as it shows after Wayne's bad experience Andy sorted it out. To me this is what matters.
There are numerous posts on here with people recommending Andy and his services, this should not harm it in the slightest!
