Hi everyone. I've been to view a couple of dc5s and will be buying one. But does anyone know why insurance companies bring up any teg reg number as a Honda accord?

If I call direct, nobody seems to know what they are so try charging silly money for them.

I'm under 25 so some companies i know are out the question. But any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Sam

How old are you? There's a couple of insurance companies on this site, Greenlight and Sky, give them a bell.

Admiral recognise the dc5 where as alot of other companies only have dc2s on there logs. So you need to watch out that you are actually insuring correctly! Im 23 4years NCB and got insured through admiral for £1200. Give them a call or as many on here will suggest greenlight or sky but im sure they are progressive insurance which means you have to be coming from a suitable powered car? Correct me if im wrong

Cheers for the tips! Im only 21 with 4 years ncb. currently driving an ep2 civic. I've called admiral (im currently insured with them) and the bloke i spoke to on the phone had no idea what a dc5 was, only the 2. sky wouldnt do it because im under 25. but i will give greenlight a go.

anyone happen to know why all tegs seem to appear as honda accords on comparison sites? just a matter of interest.

thanks a lot.

Classed as grey imports which sone insurance companies don't recognise. And not everyone who works in insurance is a car nut, so likewise they don't have the foggiest idea what one is. I would stick to the specialist companies and dont get Internet quotes. Calling them up will be alot easier for a quote. Good luck mate, but its going to be pricy as you won't have "experience" in a performance vehicle. That won't help, but there are people out there who have still managed :)

Strange admiral found mine as dc5 straight away and i put them over it several times to make sure everything was above board. Although i did give them the registration. You do need to call its pointless trying to get quotes for imports online.

Oh and btw you do have experience in a performance car being an ep2 as neil from greenlight suggested to me when i tried them. He said going from something like civic sport or the like would be progressive in their eyes towards insurance on an ep3 or dc5.

I got insured with admiral too... You could try do it online and search the car yourself. They definitely have a dc5 on there and then ring them and quote the reference number to see if they can take anymore money off . Good luck

Thats great, i was left a voicemail by them at around 6 asking me to call them in the morning, so fingers crossed it will be a half decent quote. Does anybody have on here have much experience with greenlight? do they tend to give better quotes as they say on their website?

AdrianFlux sorted me for £680. I had 6 or 7 years NCB - can't remember. 24 years old. Not coming from anything remotely sporty.

Hi Sam,

I had a similar problem as you, Although being 10 years older, my circumstances are slightly different.

I tried with Greenlight after all the good things i have heard about them, but Neil wasn't convinced that an EP2 was a performance car.

Just renewed with Admiral on the Civic based on the fact I can switch the policy to the DC5 (when it finally arrives). Might just need to speak to the right person with regards the specifics of the DC5, but the guy I spoke with knew it was an import and all the details were correct. They will even allow up to 6 modifications.

You could also try doing an online check with Sainsburys insurance. They recognised the DC5 correctly and was comparable to the Admiral quote. A way of checking you are not getting ripped off, if nothing else.

Hope you get it sorted.
