Starting from cold issue...

Hello all!

I‘ve brought my first DC5 in February this year and now have come across a hunting sort of issue from cold and also a loud knocking sound on the top end but will clear when I blip the throttle to 3k and will then go through the warm up phase. The problem has only happened since adjusting the valve clearances and change of rocker cover in April (brought a second to get powder coated) . Since then I‘ve rechecked the valve clearances and had them rechecked by a trusty Honda specialist. I‘ve had the timing chain replaced as well as the V-tec sprocket as told this could be the problem. Changed and still no difference.

Things I‘ve tried and made no difference:

- Cleaned IACV
- Swapped throttle body‘s with sensors attached and different IACV
- Injector leak test
- Checked fuel pressure
- Replaced fuel filter
- Changed spark plugs
- Changed coolant temp sensor
- Clamped off idle air assist valve
- Replaced PCV valve
- Inspected top piston, checking no coolant sat on top
- Swapped ECU‘s (another k100)
- Idle Re-learn

(Please note car is mapped.)

Car pulls wonderful and engages V-tec fine. I need help with this one, I‘ve tried every thing I could think of. And nothing has made any improvement. I‘m open to any suggestions I can check most items as I am a mechanic and have the tools. But not familiar with these engines before as I work for Volkswagen.. ha

All help is very much appreciated
