The Teg has gone

I've managed to get rid of the car guys, traded it in yesterday for a tidy little Clio 182 and some cash my way. Early impressions are the chassis is very good, doesn't move around as much as the Teg but the seating position is awful as is the gearstick position, build quality inside is garbage compared to the DC5 but it feels more nimble and will be a better car for me I think.

Although I had some issues with the DC5, I grew to like it again towards the end of my ownership and had the engine issues not occurr; I'd probably have kept it but it's gone now and hopefully it will go to a good home.

I will miss the forum and the people on here but I won't miss the dic*heads on the Honda Facebook pages. I will likely still pop in here from time to time but I want away from the Honda scene for a while as I've not had much luck with my last few cars.

I wish everyone all the best with their motors and thanks again for all the help and advice I've had over the years, I'm sure my persisent moaning won't be missed. lol

Cheers

Marc

Hope you get on with the Clio and enjoy it more than the DC5, they are definitely held in high regards when it comes to hot hatches.

I‘ve always wanted a drive in one, any pics?

Thanks Lewis! It's early days but you can tell there's a decent chassis under there.

I've only got one pic so far so I'll try and get some more and get them posted. It's nowhere near as refined as the Integra but it's also not as crashy either, mine has Cook Sport springs on it too which are known as being a tad harsh.

I test drove a brand new 182 in 2005 and bought....a 7 year old JDM DC2 :xrockout:

Either way shame to have the ownership tainted with problems and fully understand as I‘d be the same myself. Good luck - pretty sure the Clio will be a proper laugh, especially on the north Wales roads. Modern cars are simply too big!

Congratulations on the change mate, I hope the Clio gives you all the fun you wanted from the DC5 but without the drama's this second one came with. Such a shame to have the ownership experience tainted but these things happen. The Clio looks good, they are very capable cars and if nothing more at least you'll never have an issue finding parts (new or second hand).

My friend at work had the 182 and loved every second of owning it so I have no doubt you'll enjoy it both on and off track (if you plan to track it at all).

Stay in touch and active here mate.

Good choice with the 182👍

I've had 2 in the past and they really are a cracking drive, especially for the money.

Big thing on these is the timing belt and dephaser pulley. If no evidence of these being changed properly then I'd get it looked at by a specialist. It is a genuine specialist only job as you need a specific tool to do it - don't trust anyone to do it unless they have the experience and reputation.

I found both of mine to be utterly reliable - fit and finish is typical Renault but the drive more than compensate.

Hope she puts a big smile on your face 🙂

All the best and enjoy the car mate. Fun cars and cheap as so easy to enjoy without the worry of massive bills.

Let's see when we're both back in a DC5 again... Since our first blue cars we seem to follow the same buy and sell pattern 🤣

Thank you mate, appreciate it and I know in private you've helped me a lot with things especially when things went ti*s up with the engine so I really appreciate all your help and advice.

It is a shame it was tainted as I really wanted my second Integra experience to be a lot more positive, in hindsight I wish I'd gone for yours or Jono's (RE Spirit) as I doubt very much I'd have had these issues, instead I stupidly dived in and got the black one without really thinking about it too much.

Yes the Clio will be a capable car but I still fancy trying a little Swift Sport, something a tad newer and better built but I'm enjoying the 182 so far and will see how it goes over the coming months.

Thanks for the feedback, thankfully the belt and dephaser have just been done so probably won't need doing again during my ownership.

I've found a good specialist in Cheshire which isn't too far, so if I need to take it anywhere I will take it there but they certainly seem like a capable little car to drive.

Hahaha the dreaded curse of owning a blue DC5 lol!

Hey thanks man, yes hopefully.....there won't be any major issues with this!

It's booked in for a full 2.25" catback system in a few weeks as the KTEC exhaust sounds bloody terrible and I can't wait to shift it, apart from that I will likely leave it as it is as I'm not sure how long I will own it for.

Seen it up for sale on Facebook earlier
Yes, Carl sent me the link.

They've put the OEM rear spoiler back on it now I noticed, asking £8500.

Congrats on the sale.
I‘ve now sold mine about a year now

I come one here time to time, as it‘s a good read forum; shame most forums aren‘t surviving.

I very much miss mine, but I knew the time was right for someone else to enjoy her. The new owner has since taken it to more places and track; rather than just a garage Queen.

The teg was my first Type R, not sure why it took so long to get one; but I thoroughly now understand the Type R passion and reason for the enthusiasts around

I would love to try ek9, dc2, jdm ep3, fd2 and actually the new age turbo ones.

Thanks mate, few things I don't like about the Clio such as the massive steering wheel and high driving position but it's growing on me.

I miss the attention the Teg gets and the sensation of driving something quite rare and a Type R, they are special cars but I've not had much joy with them. I should have gone for yours or another off the forum and my experience would have been much better but I also think they weren't the car for me.

I'd like to try a DC2 or FD2 in the future if I get another one as the newer ones don't appear to be very reliable. I probably will come back to a Type R at some point as they're in my blood but it won't be for a while I don't think.

I've got this Clio for now so will see how it goes but I'm hoping to get an i30n later in the year if finances approve. Type R's are very special though.
