The Ultimate Battery Thread

I thought I'd post some of the information I collected today whilst searching for the correct battery for the DC5.

This is mainly because I see people buying the Halfords branded Micra battery which isn't the correct fitment for £65! Or £90 for a Bosch!

Also I have negotiated them at trade price.

The universal UK code for the correct battery is 156. The Varta code is B31

Approx dimension taken from my OEM Yuasa Tristar battery.
235mm wide
220mm tall
125mm thick
13mm terminals
30mm from the back of the battery to the center of the terminal.

The VARTA battery with a 4 year warranty is £42

The Numax battery with a 3 year warranty is £37

Postage is around £10 or collect in Grimsby.

Re: The Ultimate Battery Thread. Sticky?

What's the spec?
Does it have the same output as the OEM battery?
I ask as the OEM battery can struggle with the UK's lower temperatures at winter.

The Varta is 45Ah. I don't know what the budget one is.

My OEM never had a problem where I live. And it was a very cold winter last year.

Must have been quite a bit cheaper then because as Edy says they`re around the £63 mark from our local Honda stealer

Re: The Ultimate Battery Thread. Sticky?

Well i do get a slight discount through my work but its not alot. When looked up under chassis number it listed 3 types, all different prices and all different makes. The one on the car was the most expensive so i bought the cheapest (around £34 all in) and what turned up was the same that was on the car anyway!

I reckon its what they use on most of the honda's including the civic type r. I also noticed its the same battery as my mums yaris :)

Re: The Ultimate Battery Thread. Sticky?

Thanks for this info Lee, just ordered a Varta battery.

Price has gone up a bit, but they still gave me the forum discount. So it was £46 and £10 delivery.

The OEM battery struggled at cold temps, so much it died, hence my change for Halfords Micra battery after research. Will try the others though if this one goes ;)
