Just got my dc5 and there is a sticker on the fusebox from honda japan to say that the oil was changed at 16000km and the next one is due at 21000km. Is that the correct interval - 5000km. How often should I change sparks, air filter and everything else that needs changing?

HI Caroline,

Got the car then :!: How is it :?:

As to service, it should be the same as an EP3, same engine basically

How often you chnage the oil etc depends on whatth car is used for  If its driven hard all of the time and used on track then you should change the oil more frequently

The plugs will last a long time, i think 60,000kms because they are iridium plugs. The K20A exhibits high oil-consumption depending on driving habits and brand of oil used. I usually change my oil every 5,000kms. The filter gets changed every 40,000kms. Don't you have the owners' manual? If not, you can download it from www.honda.co.jp integra website, but have fun at translating the Japanese. You won't have to do much though, try looking for numbers and pictures. The service interval table shouldn't take much to decipher.

It shouldn't be any different from say the export DC5 Type R or the RSX-S.

Best to check, goodluck!

No I dont have an owners manual!! Tried going onto the japanese site but couldn't seem to find it but I'll keep looking, there is nothing on the acura site for the rsx that you can download either. I think I will just stick with doing it every 5000km, its not worth the rist of wrecking the car. Why do you only change the filter every 40000.

Also what is the best type of oil to use. My old civic didn't take synthetic oil so I dont really know what I am talking about when it comes to it.

I'll find the link for the manual for you okay? i'll post the link for it.

I think it uses 10w-30, but that will depend on the climate of your region.
I used Mobil1 synthetic 10w-30 before, and noticed that it will sip it faster than the mineral FEO honda stuff. Watch that dipstick like a hawk! I've heard many hondas pop due to oil starvation.

Synthetic can be used on any civic, unless it is real old, a mineral oil would be better. There's no such thing as a car that CAN'T take synthetic oil, but there are strong recommendations for them otherwise.

http://www.honda.co.jp/manual/integra-type-r/2004/contents/8-0-0-servicedata/

....and if you are a mere mortal that can't read japanese (like me!)

Just pop the url into http://babelfish.altavista.com/ and do a japanese to english website translation - the page comes through and mostly makes sense.

Recommended oils being:
HONDA genuine oil (for 4 cycle four wheel cars)
Ultra LTD SL (API SJ/GF-3 SAE 5W-30)
Ultra GOLD SL (API SJ SAE 5W-40)
Ultra MILD SL (API SJ/GF-3 SAE 10W-30)

(Running mine on Shell Helix 5W-40)

I managed to get the entire manual translated and printed lastnight but there is very little information about the servicing details. I downloaded a technical manual for my boyfriends FTO and there were 1200 pages, and the ITR one has only about 150.

Where can I find out the exact service schedule because none of the honda garages here have a clue what type of car it is let alone how to service it.

Is it the same service schedule as the civic type R or the s2000??

@SJ_Skline - are you changing yours every 5000km?

Caroline,

I'm at 1900 miles since last service.

I reckon I'm going to change the oil at 3000 miles and then the oil and the filter at 6000. In Km's, er... er.... thats... er... 4828KM, so yeah - about 5000KM.

Don't worry too much about the servicing, Honda cars are rather robust and designed to be serviced like their other cars. Just service it like the Civic Type R. That uses the I-vtec block too doesn't it? Do you guys have the Euro accord type R?

Ah, leave him alone, its still a really quick car and it was a hell of a lot quicker than my old 1.5 mx civic. Its a gorgous car, was silver but we got it sprayed blue with white wheels ( the colour of the saab aero convertible, I think its called lightening blue)
