As the title suggests.. when you turn the lights on there is a small red light just below the stereo next to the cigarette lighter just above the cup holders....

It doesnt seem bright enough to be of any use...

Anybody know what its meant for ???

Holy thread revival ( hey, that's what happens when the search function is used 8) )

Anyway, my light that illuminates the cup holders isn't working, before I start to investigate thoroughly in the daylight, has anyone else had this problem? is it a simple fuse problem or replacement bulb?

Any help is muchos appreciated

Cheers

5.5 years? That must be a record

Fair play though, searching & adding to old threads is a Good Thing 8)

Have you noticed any other stuff not working? If not then it's more likely to be the bulb than the fuse, as it's unlikely to have its own fuse.

Bulb Details

Well, after a quick investigation, it appears to be the bulb that was at fault, 75p later and job done, however, there doesn't seem to be a way of amending the red filter that's on the fascia that the bulb holder fits into.

I've ordered a replacement LED bulb in the vain hope of making the light brighter but not holding out much hope - will update when fitted.

For future reference, the Bulb is an S14W 1.4W and can be bought from any motor factors.

Cheers

My light is intermittent. All I have to do is remove the HU to investigate, but I keep forgetting/too lazy.

Will get around to it one day.

u dont have to remove HU at all..

JUST 'PULL' the plastic shroud out where the light sits. . . .

Digging up an old thread here, but I've got a couple of interior bulbs out that need replacing with this being one off them.

Ive tried searching for a S14W 1.4W recommended above but cant find any bulbs relating to this. I take it this bulb is different from the T3/T4 bulbs for the heater controls? Can anyone confirm which bulb I will need and whether you have enough access to replace this bulb without removing the headhunit too?

Cheers,

No need to remove the headunit, I wrote a quick guide for someone a while back that might be useful for you.
  • First off remove the piece of interior trim that the cigarette lighter is housed. There should be a small slot either side near the top where you can wedge a trim removal tool into. Pop out one side, the other side should pull out fairly easily.
  • Locate the circular piece which the light shines out of and reach up inside and simply push it out towards you. It should pop straight out
  • Twist the wire within the housing and the bulb should come out of the housing like most normal bulbs do.
  • Then just pull the dead bulb straight out of the wiring.
  • Put the new bulb in, check it works by turning on the ignition then put back together
  • The cup holder light only fits back into the hole one way so no concern in making sure it's correct
I *think* these bulbs will fit - I'm not 100% on this though. They look identical though.

Thanks mate, I actually took the bulb out last night and had a look for myself. (Stopped being lazy!) Its very similar to the one above, a tiny wedge bulb. I measured 5mmx17mm roughly. I also looked at the one you've linked too but I wonder whether it being 12v 1.2 w whether it would stay up to the job? The only thing the old bulb does say on it is 14V 1.4W...

Seems to be very few online with that spec.
