So all of a sudden the clutch started to smell and when I press the clutch you can hear a whistling sound and the revs drop more than normal and the engine begins to hesitate. Started happening all of a sudden. Any ideas? revs drop and makes the whistling sound even in neutral.

Update:
2hours later I Drove home and the sound has minimised to a grinding sound and the revs are no longer dropping to extreame levels. There is a slight smell from the clutch though (barely noticeable).

Sounds like the clutch release bearing may have broken up. That or the pressure plate has failed.
Only way of knowing will be to drop the gearbox buddy. 8-(

I think its probably the release bearing too. I'm not sure if its safe to drive the car on motorway till I get it sorted (probably new clutch). What you think?

Will be ok I would of thought but if the gears start too crunch for any reason then stop driving it.

Was the release bearing. Changed clutch to OEM clutch with lightweight flywheel and wow.. Feels like new :)
