Ours over here went up again. Now paying 630 euro a year for Tax on roads that are 100 times worse than the roads in the UK.

Thats about 593 Sterling for 1 years TAX.

yeah im £400 too

its fornicate bull sh1t if you ask me!!!

I've taken it really far with the dvla and all they say is prove it isnt and we'll take you seriously. Problem is to have the car checked it costs about 250 quid.

Worth it of course if you win the battle.

I just cant get my head round how a 2.0l n/a produced as much emissions as a bleed'in porche or 3.0l bmw etc etc

Whats even more annoying is that the UKDM EP3 with the almost identical engine is only 220 p/a @ about 210g/km Co2!!!!

I went through loads of hassle when SVA'ing my car to get a different ECU and model report to make sure my car is in the low tax band.

Its worth it now though as its £185 for the year.

One of the first questions i asked when looking round for a DC5 was "is the car in tax band G" If the answer was "yes" i didn't want the car, simple as that. I'd like to know how they are banded. Is it a case of each individual car being tested as they are imported or are these "model reports" anything to do with them. Mine says 223g/km on the log book which is close to the 225 crossover. Currant band F, new band K.

Essentially there are 3 categories the car falls under...

1) Registered as PLG, no emission levels recorded on Registration Certificate = cheapest TAX currently £185 (12 months) rising to £190 in March 2009.

2) Registered using later model report stating CO2 emissions of 223g/km = currently Band F £210 (12 months), changing to Band K and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £215, then to £245 in March 2010.

3) Registered using early model report stating CO2 emissions of 234g/km = currently Band G £400 (12 months), changing to Band L and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £415, then to £425 in March 2010.

There is an exception for cars first registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006, will fall into band K even if they emit more than 225g/km... although I do not fully understand this exception... but will try and study up and update this post.

EDIT:
According to the AA "cars emitting over 225g/km and first registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006 will now go into band 'K', at least until 2010/11. Under the previous proposals these cars would have moved into band 'L' or 'M' depending on official CO2 emissions. So in theory come March, people currently paying £400 for TAX, could be paying £215, provided their car was registered between the stated dates... Surely not...

I'm a £400 boy! Not bothered really as I was expecting it so have been buying me Post Office stamps every month!!!

It would, of course, be nice to be in a lower price range!

Band G was originally for cars 225+ and reged after march '06, but i thought they had backsteped on this on the new taxing and made it anything over 225 from march '01, basically meaning some cars (MK4 R32 Golfs for eg.) tax are gonna double from £210 to £400. Are they now maintaining the march '06 idea?
