A few little things I am about to do

Hi guys and girls,

Just wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction. I have been debating whether to sell the Teg and move on and be 'normal' and buy a BMW like everyone else does out here in Germany (tax free - still not worth it). I have decided to throw a bit more money at the car and basically, go nuts with it.

I have currently go the Alpine head unit fitted, complete with reversing camera.

I have recently had the original seats retrimmed in red leather, complete with the Recaro logo. I'll put pictures up of these as they really are fantastic seats. I have also had the red doorcards retrimmed in red leather. Not cheap, but worth it.

Now the seats are slightly lighter than the original colour. To that end I am looking to retrim the carpet in a lighter red. I have seen a company that will do it (Classic Car Carpets) but I will need I believe, a 'diagram' (only word I can think of) of the carpet so they can make a replica cut of it. If anyone can help me with that I will be much appreciated.

This will be incorporated in the complete stripping of the vehicle, as it will be getting a respray (white again, but not Championship white. I have my reasons). I have seen on a TV show a while back with a VW Campervan that was 'dipped' to check for rust (I think, I was drinking at the time) and then was treated, as were all the panels. Again, anyone with knowledge or a steer in the right direction would again, be appreciated.

Oh, also, a plan is also brewing to get a new K20A engine - nothing wrong whatsoever with the original, just thought why not?

I plan on doing these things as the car will be with me until the day I die (hopefully later rather than sooner).

Many thanks for your help in advance, I'll continue to search as well but I am always sidetracked by hardcore pornography sites.

Haha I like the last statement there.

I would say maybe turbo or supercharge the car before you get a new engine. If you blow it get it forged. In the end all of that would cost less than a new k20 I would think.

I'm not keen on getting it super/turbocharged to be honest. It's an option but I would be happier with a new engine. If I did go down this avenue then as I am a bit anal I would want the engine completely stripped and rebuilt before the charger is put on.

Just a query; do TGM deal with supercharged Integras?

At least I'm honest!

I think just replacing the engine for no reason my be a little wasteful but hey your choice. The k20 will go on forever if you look after it so no need to replace. Id put the money to better use like lowering, FRSU and some minor bolt on's if your not into the mod'ing scene as the car will look and feel transformed.

I'll see for the engine part, I may just go along stripping it and rebuilding the engine and then bolting on a charger of some kind. My main priority is to 'modernise' the look slightly. I would like to protect it from rust. not that its got any at the moment, but it is better to sort it now than later. The respray is definitely on the cards - Anyone resprayed a different white to CW?

I've seen it done and it doesn't look right. Honda got it right first time IMO

How about a full N/A rebuild?..

(headgasket, new timing chain & tensioner, upgraded cams & valve springs, new items wherever you like??)

Use them wheels after mate?

That sounds like a plan, and to be honest is the avenue I will probably take. Keeping it N/A is what I prefer.

If anyone has any ideas on the other aspects of the car that I originally mentioned please feel free to chip in with some knowledge.

BMW'S are tax free in Germany? lol... if only Aston Martin did the same in the UK I would be on it!

Regarding the Teg, red leather sounds awesome! Gotta post up some pics :)

I think you need to weigh up your options, are there any other cars you like? Possibly colour change etc, do what you like, but make sure you are 100% on whatever you choose.

Speed isn't everything with the DC5, it's fast enough standard IMO, but just do what you wanna do to it and have fun is my advice :)

Also, colour matching and complimentary colours, develop a theme, mine is black/blue, carbon/titanium. So you can keep a nice consistent style going. :)

I don't want to change the car. I have thought about it a lot, but simply bang for buck, its the best option. I can get any car tax free out here, but then you have to abide by BFG rules (British Forces Germany) such as LHD lights (not cheap) insurance only with certain companies (rip off). You do get tax free fuel as well, but still, 28 grand for a 320D M Sport BMW? Nah.

Replacing a perfectly good engine for the fun of it?

Trolling. Either that or you're just stupid.

IMO if it's not broken don't fix it... But upgrade components ie suspension, brakes, exhaust etc.

I'm not sure what you willing to spend on the car but from hearing you say you want to put a new engine in I take it your not going to be thrifty haha.

What route do you wanna go? Supercharged/Turbo or NA?

I think a no expense spared NA build would be awesome but it's your preference.

Hope your project goes well, good luck :)

The thing is I want to preserve the car for eternity. Buying the same car back that I used to own and imported originally should say I have a bond with it. Sad I know, but thats just how it is. The new engine was an idea of preservation - The car will be in my possession until the day I die. But after what I have been told by people on here, it seems that the better option would be to rebuild the engine, possibly forging.

FI is very tempting, I have spoken to many people about it and nothing but praise has been given to the drivability of the car. Do you lose VTEC on a supercharger? I've never actually asked anyone about that!

Think a phonecall to TGM seems to be on the cards!

My main priority is the bodywork. As great as it is, nothing lasts forever, so I would like to sort it out now. Haven't found anyone about this.

Respray-wise - Think I may have been brash with the changing of the white. I think the car just needs a respray in the original colour (that will keep the purists happy),

I'll post the pictures of the seats in a while - As great as the seats are, you will see why I need to lighten the colour of the carpet (although opinions greatly accepted).
