Am I asking too much for my DC5?

Hi All,

I've had my DC5 for sale for a couple of months now (on the forums and Gumtree) and other than a couple of low offers and a p/x it's only had a small amount of interest.

I've since uploaded it to eBay, Pistonheads and Autotrader where it's had a number of views (1400+ and 3 watchers since Saturday on eBay).

Link to ad on this forum: http://www.itr-dc5.club/forum/index.php?/topic/43754-honda-dc5-integra-type-r-championship-white-2005-55-85k-%C2%A311000/

Looking at other DC5s online the prices vary somewhat and I'd have thought mine would get at least 10k but even at 11k it's had minimal interest!

Perhaps I'm just being impatient, but just wanted to put the question out there?

Cheers,
Ash

Prices may have gone up a bit on imports due to exchange rates but that doesnt mean prices of ones that are already here and up in private sales have so Id say yeah...with high miles....depends how long your prepared to wait to get an asking price.....waiting for someone who agrees with the price to come along can take a while and you will likely encounter MANY more timewasters until that day arrives...all part of the process.
That's fair enough, what sort of price do you think I'm looking at for mine?

Do you have the stock/OEM parts?

Maybe you can put it back as close to OEM as you can and make money off the parts so that you can reduce the price slightly?

There are cheaper ones on pistonheads, but then they don't have the parts you do.

Maybe mileage is what's holding it back. But as already mentioned, just takes the right buyer to come along who knows what the car and the parts are worth.

Out of curiosity, have you approached TGT, see what they'd offer you.

Mine is an 04 PFL with 47k (miles). I wouldn't be accept a penny less then £10k. Not that I'm selling it.

Give it while. It may be a bit high right now, but the prices are rising. It's a facelift so usually commands more, but you've just got to wait. End of the day someone can buy a pfl dc5 for a little more to half of what you are asking. Sure it will be worn out (and probably blue) compared, but it's a big factor. Mines immaculate on 58k on an 02 plate and even if someone offered me 11k I would refuse, because I know that no other dc5 I've seen is as straight or has as solid an engine as mine so far. Plus I'm probably not going to sell, my next car will be when I have the cash to buy it outright.

Have you tried trading it in? Or selling it to a trader?

There's a few sport car specialists that often are on the look out for integras. They might give you close to the 10-11k figure you're after?

Or maybe ask the likes of BHP or TGT if they would sell it on your behalf? For a small fee obviously.

I don't blame you asking for what you are. I don't like to see them at cheap prices, even with a few miles on.

Not many at for sale at £10-12k though. Although i realise yours has had money tastefully and well spent on it.

The RBC front brake discs... do you mean EBC or RPB?

As it's a facelift, i'd thought at least 10k would be reasonable, so I wouldn't go lower.

Thanks for the replies chaps.... I always thought Facelift DC5's went for over 10k, but I guess it all depends on mileage/condition etc.... as far as fresh imports are concerned, I remember James saying how much money he had to spend on this car after he had picked it up from Torque GT for little niggles and problems... surely one that has been sorted out and has decent mods on it should fetch a reasonable price... the lowest I want for it is 10k but I've only been offered 9k so far.

MikeyW - thanks for spotting that... it's meant to say RPB!

Going through your ad, you are along the right lines of around 10k.. £11k is a tad high imo but you do have to price it higher just incase someone comes and makes silly offers..

I bought my facelift over 2 yrs ago for just under £8k, had around 85k on the clock (mixed) plus a genuine mugen lip

Your price cant compete against fresh import as theres many factors to consider so it'll always cost lower.. like they wont get that special treatment, they wont be first uk owner, no brand new tyres, the car wont be freshly undersealed etc. Also, cars itself aren't that expensive to import directly, it's usually the importing company that charge the extras..

You have to also bare in mind some mods on your car arent worth much to others.. for example your k100 ecu, purchase cost wouldve been around £700 but used value is £300.. stuff like intake, coilovers, exhaust, camber adjusting parts, its sometime nice to buy a modded car but for the extra you're adding on for including them, some might not appreciate those mods and prefer a standard car so they can buy mods of their choice instead..

Anyways, thats my opinion..

Good luck with the sale..

Thought I'd post this in here.

I've had the car for sale on here for a number of weeks with zero interest. It went on Pistonheads last night and I've had two texts about it with one guy offering £6250 which to me is a derisory offer.

Even with the car's bodywork challenges I believe it to be worth more than that. I would like people's honest opinions on the car, do you think it's worth around £7000 or am I ask too much?

I am prepared to come down a little as I appreciate I won't likely get 7 for it but to me £6250 is taking the pi*s. The difficulty I have is I need the car gone as I've found a couple of cars I like, but they're not likely to be around for long and £6250 would get me one of these cars so I don't know whether to take the offer and go.

I've declined it so far but I'm in two minds whether to go back to the guy and accept it but I feel as though I'm massively undervaluing the car as well as taking a huge hit on it, I only paid £8000 for it back in 2013. :(

Should I hang fire and see how the advert goes?

Depends how much you want it gone and don't mind taking the hit on the min price you have in your head.

I think it's bang on the money at 7k in honesty fella.
Personally, I wouldn't class stone chips on the bumper and bonnet as 'bad bodywork' at all, especially given it's done the best part of 90k! Kerbing can be touched up for next to nothing too!

If someone offered 6250 bargain a deal with them to remove the mods to sell separately. Surely J's strut alone would pull back a chunk! Appradio etc all worth good money!

Saying all that though, I picked mine up from a 'Swapping' website. I swapped for my 56 plate 130i. Worth a look if you want to try an alternative route, advertise for swap for specc'd 123D etc and chance it!

My initial thoughts are that if you've been offered a solid amount for your car which'll allow you to buy the one your really after then why not take it?

To me it sounds cheap, but obviously good value for money (what's cheap and what's not) changes for each potential buyer. Depends how patient you are.

You have a good suspension setup, mapped, private plate etc. And the best colour ;)

I would have thought TGT might offer you similar money so would see what they have to say. Also, with brexit and exchange rates, don't be too hasty to sell. It will cost buyers more to buy one now by at least 20%, so don't rush into a sale just because of the next purchase. Another good car you want will always come along.

If I was to sell, right now is a weird time as depending on what happens to the exchange rate, a month could lose you a lot. It's all up in the air though and too early to say just yet.

If the exchange rate does stay poor, you'll find a bigger price gap between the rough 5.5k to 6.8k cars and the good condition 8k+ cars until all the bad eggs are broken for parts.

Prices of dc5 do go and up down I've seen, partially driven by market and then individually, I've seen some go less than I would accept if it was mine, then again I've seen some go over the odds.

As above sucking up a few hundred pounds short term might be worth the hassle.

You've got to benchmark against what's on market now, and being honest on face value there are some in better bodywork condition to yours at £7k; albeit maybe not as good mechanically etc.

Maybe try and negotiate a middle ground, but if not demod anything you might get value back.

If it makes you feel better I know someone chopping in a 8 month old audi a5 and they've lost £13k!!!

And I'll be a vulture and say if my PFL OEM suspension can be changed to yours, in an attempt to recoup some money. Drop me a message, Bilstein is on my list ;)

Good luck with the sale.

For a blue one, 6250 seems pretty expensive to me.....

On a serious note, 6250 sounds like what a trader would offer, wouldn't be surprised to see it on a forecourt in a couple of weeks for 7.5k

Cheers guys for the opinions, feedback and views I appreciate it.

The car is certainly not perfect, I'd be the first to admit that as well as being the least desirable colour which again I am honest enough to admit, but £6250 seems low and a lot less than what others have gone for.

I appreciate the comments re the bodywork not being the best which isn't and there are and have been better examples for sale of late, but some I've seen with higher mileage and perhaps not in as good overall condition have gone for me, and are for sale for a lot more than what I'm asking.

I do take on board what some (most) of you are saying re the price and perhaps it might be worth taking that to get this other car but I am going to hang fire at least a week or so and what comes of the advert. If at that point it doesn't go then I may have to bite the bullet and take a reduction in price which is mightily frustrating for me personally. :(

Thanks again for your help everyone.
