Annoying noise.

My car has developed an irritating rattle/vibration type of noise between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Its sounds like the noise you get from a loose heat shield vibrating against something else. It does it when the car is stationary and also when moving. I have managed to isolate the sound to the driver footwell area near where the steering column goes through the baulkhead. Having had a look under the car there are a couple of heatshield type things in that area but none appear to be loose. Does anyone else have an idea what could be causing this noise please? I read in another post somewhere that it may be the manifold cover.

hi there, mine's the same at those revs.
think it might be the flap on the in side of the front pipe,
just starting to open ready for the v-tec to kick in.
my throttle pedel vibrates to. soon as i'm over or under 5 to 6 grand
it stops.

Any idea how to cure it? It drive me nuts.

i don't think you can mate,
the only other way would be a replacement system.
unless anybody else has any ideas :?:
