Hello all! I don't have a dc5 yet but thought I'd introduce myself anyway.

I'm currently driving a Corolla T Sport, but if all goes to plan I'm hoping to place an order with JM Imports very soon.

I was just wondering if there are any members from the North East area? Kinda hoping someone could spare some time to take me out for a cheeky spin? :D

Each to their own but I won't go near them following a few cars I've had dealings with that they imported.

Anyways I'm out in Blaydon personally but my cars still having niggles sorted at the moment and is heavily engine modified so depending on when you want a run out and what sort of power (OEM VS UPGRADED) it might not be what your looking for.

Anyways welcome along ;)

For me they were spot on, what problems did you have Gordon? I'm not having ago I just think its nice to hear other peoples opinions and any one who plans on using them gets to see the bad aswell as the good.

Just from what I've seen of the cars and that they've been really cagey with customers, bad aftercare and standoffish when it came to warranty fixes etc.

I've mentioned this thread to a friend who MAY weigh in on his experience with them but that's their story to tell not mine.

Thanks for the offer Gordon, but as you say I'm looking for more OEM :)

It's gonna be first time importing for me, so any experiences good or bad would be helpful!

Apart from JM, are there any other importers recommended that aren't too far away?

From my personal dealings with JM, I wouldn't use them again - see here for the issues I had.

As for alternative importers, a good friend of mine based in Newcastle imports cars - he's supplied a few DC5s to people on these forums. His business is "Just Imports", but feel free to give me a PM if a google doesn't find you his contact details.

Failing that, I've heard good things about Torque GT, but they couldn't be based much further away from us!

Wellcome to the forum fella,

Ill never comment on another importer as its not proffesional but i can tell you that we have personally just started to import for private customers again. I dont know if youve heard of our company www.200bhpcars.com I specialise in Honda Type R's and im based in Newcastle upon Tyne as luck has it.

Weve not been active on the forums for a good while due to the poor economics of the GBP vs JPY and the UK recession but as of Jan 2015 we are now launching again our import service.

Im awaiting the mods coming back to me to re-activate our Traders account on here, however you can read about us on the TypeR owners forum and elsewhere.

also theres still a few of my old customers on here who would reccomend us personally.

If you need me, get in touch.

To this day I still believe his garage/employee were the ones that cracked my C-West side skirts on my old DC5, when approached I unfortunately didn't have a leg to stand on as I didn't have any CCTV evidence or anything.

Plus I paid for 2 front bearings supplied and fitted, wen I went to collect the car "Ahh mate they only sent us the rear.. And when we checked the also needed doing.. So we done them"

"If you want the fronts that'll be another ££££ and another 6hr labour charge"

I wouldn't go back. I don't like the fact he basically took the piss on both my side skirts and didn't even ask me about fitting rear bearing and when I returned that was the only time I was informed, by which point it was too late and I knew i needed the fronts doing so had to do it. Ended up giving him around £6-700 too.

Sorry to hear that Liam. It's not easy managing a garage , I managed a HIQ garage with 5 staff for 2 years doing tyres and mechanical work and shit does happen sometimes, again it's how you deal with things that matters in my opinion - 2/3 occasions we had disasters in the garage and your left with a choice on how to deal with that, it's not easy but Iv allways found the truth and transparency is allways the best option.

We once jacked up a BT van on the scissor lift however and bent the sill - that one we never owned up to!!! Eek!

"There's dcy Europe based in York but not sure what they're like."

I have just imported a 2001 DC5 in CW though DCY (Barrie and George), I paid 9K for a 40K miler. TBH the car is pretty much mint, a slightly flaky sticker on the O/S flank and a little bit of peel on the rocker cover. I had dealt with them for a repair of my DC2 and in that and the car import they have been excellent, really friendly responsive service and they will certainly look after you, they did the KPH/MPH conversion, fog light, registration as part of the service and also set me up with a radio expander (£25) wax oil seal (£100) and CAT 1 alarm (£325).

They have a mechanic working for them who has breathed on a few Touring car DC2's so if you were after a bit of fairy dust on top they could probably supply that aswell.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm from Yorkshire, but I would expect that if you deal with these boys you will come away with a smile on your face!

Teggs.

Well, thanks for the feedback guys much appreciated!

I did consider DCY at first but preferred someone closer to home.

I've been messaging Andy past couple of days and if all goes to plan I'll be going with 200BHP :)
