Bad quotes so far

Having trouble finding good quotes for a DC5. I'm 21 with 2 years no claims, held license 2 + 1/2 years. solid named drivers etc, trying all the tricks in the book but the biggest problem seems to be most places online don't even recognise the car.

Best I've had so far is £2365 quoted from AF. Going to keep looking, still waiting on a few of the known ones here to get back to me with prices but overall it's looking dim. Spent all day and not really getting anywhere. Does anyone have any advice they could give me?

Thanks!

Any previous driving with a high powered car?

Id avoid most places online bar sainsburys as they recognise the car.

Forget online quotes, call up and speak to them, Try and keep the DC5 as standard as possible.

A few insurers won't quote you without owning a car for 12 months previous with similar performance.

First thing you are still classed as a young driver, no offence to you, second thing it is an import & if you haven't driven anything what they call high performance you may struggle for insurance might be worth buying a civic ep3 for a while then going for dc5. Just my 2 pence worth.

A plan or greenlight wouldn't quote me earlier this year because I was under 23 (22 at the time). I had a claim free period of 18 months on an EP3 and 3 months or so on the DC5. I also had held the licence for 4 years and had 5 years no claims.

I'd rather be young enough to be overcharged, than a middle age cheapo quoter :(

Yes please. I'm 36 (I think) and paid £397 for mine

£200 for a decade is a bargain ;)

I think I paid £900 for my first year with the DC5, I was 22 and went with Admiral, previous car being a Peugeot 107 I don't think the quote was too bad!

Finally had a good quote, first of all ended up at Elephant quoting £1660, but when I added my two non-fault claims (fully recovered from third party + hit while parked both times) it spiked up to £3400. Bell have quoted me £1280 with black box for the first 3 months. I'm currently on black box on a 1.1 Peugeot 206 and it really doesn't bother me - but I don't think many DC5 owners would want one! so it really doesn't bother me, hopefully I get used to swapping from drums to brembos pretty fast :D. Going to view my first one tomorrow, fortunately I have got some knowledgeable people with me :)!

Still have 3 quotes outstanding that I am expecting to get back to me before I will purchase insurance anyway, but at least I can buy in peace of mind now.

you shouldnt quote from companies like elephant or bell.. they're not specialised in modified or imports and won't insure your mods even if declared.. also, they might not even have the right integra type r on the system to quote you on..

as above, get quotes from specialists like chris knott, adrian flux, sky insurance, brentacre, greenlight, keith michaels etc.

for myself, chris knott and brentacre had been cheapest but this year sky insurance beat both of them at renewal..

my brother whos also 21 had a quote for a dc5 for £1800 from brentacre if i rememer correctly.. this was back in march, with 2 years ncb and 3 years of driving experience.. this was with all mods declared and insured as well on a like for like basis

funny thing is, olds like us can afford your insurance but we dont have to.. we can spend the extra on mods and nice wheels lol

I'm so old, I'm almost back to having pre children levels of money ;)

To be fair, when us olds were your age, insurance wasn't stupendous like it is now for young folk. My first EP3 was 420 a year to insure when I was 24 (I think), first dc2 a few years later was only 600! (only lol)

Think your too young for greenlight which is unfortunate as I've got my dc5 and ep3 insured with them for decent money although I'm a student so that may make mine cheaper as neither cars are used for commuting. I would say your best bet would be phone Adrian flux

I was with bell or Adrian flux first this was when I was 21 with 3 years ncb it cost me 1000 outright to insure on a limited mileage policy. Try bell pal they were always good for me. But as said before sainsbury but it's a bit of a lottery was around 700 for me this year when others have had half that. I'm now 25 with 7yewrs ncb.

If you have had at least a tear's experience of driving that or similar bhp car, then please try our scheme :)
