Boot sealing

Its seam sealer. Should be on most seam joints in and out of the car to stop water ingress.

Not sure if its usually overpainted though when the shell is painted, or put on after paint on DC5 though.

All cars have it.

When a car is made, the panels are spot welded together. So in between these spots, there is nothing bonding the metal. Water would settle in the panel gaps, and rot fast. So seam sealer is applied, covering the joints. This stops the water getting in between the panel.

If you lift up the carpet, you will see it. Under the car too between sections of the floor pan.

They all have it, although it's usually painted over?

That looks like someone has simply put it on with a brush!? Maybe it's had some grinding/welding done as they are probe to gather water there!

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about though!

Well it could be a repair yes. I dont know if the boot floor is usually painted ? Phelpo says the sealer is usually painted over, so it could have been done after factory.

Factory and decent bodyshops usually use a caulk type gun. Think silicone sealer type gun. But you can buy brushable seam sealer.
Its never normally neat from factory, as its always covered / out of sight.
