Has anyone ever changed this synchro or any other synchro's themselves? I am having alot of trouble engaging 2nd gear now. It seems to crunch all the time. Tried changing transmission fluid to Amsoil MTF and it hasn't helped at all. Just trying to find out how big a job it is and whether to do it myself. I know these synchro's are £400 from Honda so I'm trying to save some money on labour for fitting if possible.

its not an easy job gearbox has to be removed and thats 4to5 hours out and in for a mechanic with ramp and all proper tools etc
and then the gearbox has to be split to get the main shaft and counter shaft out and then theres indent springs selector bearings speed sensor revearse interlock etc before it can be split and a press is needed also really a job for a professional! maybe you could save some money removing the box yourself but thats still trikcy enough the rsx manual has intructions for removing the box
its a false econemy spliting the box yourself as it could cost you more in the long run if anything went wrong.

OK cheers for that. Will be taking the whole engine out as I'm putting it into an Elise, so while it's out will be doing this. If it's as difficult as you make it sound I'll probably just remove it and take the box to TGM for the work.

Just make sure tgm are doing the work themselves as many garages will take the box of you and flog it of to a gearbox specialist to do the work and cream some money of it for themselves not saying that the will as i know nothing about tgm!
but price the job around some reputable gearbox specialists as they do this day in day out and will be able to tell you exactly the condition of the bearings synchros etc and warrenty the work carried out! but go with who you trust.

yep, TGM fitted an Exedy clutch, spoon diff, some bearings, 3/4 and 5/6 synchro's but not 1/2 as they are £400 and he didn't see anything wrong with the 1/2 synchro. At the time (Last summer) it only used to crunch every now and then and mainly when it was cold, but now it crunches all the time, although eases off a little on hot days. I put in Amsoil MTF to try and help things as I thought it might be down to the viscosity of the Honda MTF3 but it hasn't made a difference??
