Clunking Sound Coming From The Rear

Hi,

I collected my Integra on Saturday and during my long 3 hour trip home with it I started to hear a clunking sound from the rear of the car. At first I though it might be the spare wheel not clamped down properly but i've checked and it doesn't move at all. Maybe it's something with the suspension.

Anyone experienced this before please?

As stoo said. Hopefully it is and it will be a cheap fix.
Av got a clunking/ knocking noise from the front of mines.
Mines is either a top mount or suspension strut.

Thanks. I'll get it checked out then. Luckily it's covered by Honda for 12mths so Honda should be able to get that sorted.

Do you know if it can be driven far like that or will it get serious please? I think my nearest Honda garage is 20 miles

Will be fine. It will just be a nakkered drop link and it will get replaced. If you can put up with the knocking.
Mines is doing my head in after a couple of days.
Coliovers are still under warranty though but they wont send me out a new one till I find out what is wrong with them. Ie swap the drivers side to the passengers and leaving the top mounts in place. If the knocking sounds moves to the other side it's the strut that's nakkered. If it doesn't it's the top mount.

I had a similar noise once when my after market exhaust was fitted, it was knocking at the back box end..

May sound silly but does it happen when you go over bumps, however small. Or when you throttle/decelerate? As the exhaust will move a lot under load. Is it an aftermarket one?

You cant swap one side to the other.......

fronts i think it would depend in the brand ( if the steering arm was movable or not), rears i see no problem why not,

I know the rears you can.
He was referring to fronts.

I've never seen a moveable steering arm hence why struts are usually labelled L and R on these.

That's what I was advised by the guy at Hsd. I don't see why they don't just send me put a new shock and top mount and I will send the old one back.
This way it costs me more money by getting them swapped if they do fit. To figure out what the noise is.
Pain in the back side.
It now looks like it's going to be a waste of time.
I will phone them back tomorrow to see of the fronts can be switched as the guy on the phone said to me to do.
I hate cars.

No bumps, just does it on flat road. Even does it just reversing out of the driveway.

I think it is the exhaust, try adjusting one of the hangers

Over bumps and potholes and it would be the rear topmounts im guessing? If its a flat its more than likely your exhaust alright id say.

Front struts are sided.
If they fit on the opposite sides I'll be very surprised.

They said just the damper assembly and not the full coliover. Anyway am just going to leave it to a specialist to check over. Av had enough messing about with it myself.
