Dc5 gearbox queries

In the near future the gearbox is going to split apart to sort out an idle whine issue (led to believe it is a first motion shaft bearing).

However, the gearbox occasionally crunches when going into second so I thought it would be best to get the synchros changed out too...

I've had a quote of £1500 for all synchros, hub sleeves and all bearings to be replaced including labour with the first and second synchros costing approx £550 from Honda alone.

Does anyone have a good supplier of synchros at a better price than this and are they as good as, is not better, than OEM synchros?

Cheers for any help,
Carl.

I had this done at tgm, stick with oem. It's pricey but worth every penny. 3 years on still faultless, silky smooth changing even from cold.

Call area motorosport, they seem to give good quotes when rebuilding boxes 👍🏻

It sounds more like a knackered clutch to me. Weak springs and release bearing can cause the whining as well as issues going into second, especially at high revs.

I've had the clutch replaced around 18 - 24 months ago and never really drove it much since as I've been too busy with work etc. only done a max of 3k miles in that time so hopefully shouldn't be the clutch.

I'll have a chat with both the mentioned garages above but I live near Norwich so it's a bit of a journey for me to get to them.

I believe it was OEM but I can't remember; I'll have a look through my receipts when I get back tonight.

I've heard APT are good but never experienced them myself. I'll give them a call and see what they say. In the meantime I'll also find out what clutch I bought.

Speak to Gary at APT.

He's mainly an Evo man but could be worth asking if he'll look at your car.

What clutch was put in?
Hi Chris,

I've spoke to Gary at ATP and he wasn't able to give any proper feedback due to being unfamiliar with them. He did recommend me another garage in Norwich but they aren't no specialist either :/.
