When accelerating from slow speed in higher gear (20mph in 3rd for example) engine briefly gives very deep hollow rattle, difficult to describe.
Easily gotten rid of by dropping a gear.

Newbie as you can see, and just wondering if it‘s normal on 2001 1.8 variant?

You will be glad to know you actually have 200cc more than you thought ;) All DC5's are 2 litre's

Just seen your garage pic and its deffo a DC5 you have.

As for the rattle, most likely lose heatshield? Is your oil topped up and not seriously empty?

In older cars, something called pinking, used to sound like this and was caused by incorrect timing or mixture. Not sure if you'd get this on a modern car with all the elctronic wizardry.

I would definitely check your oil level and heatshields. If you don't know when it last had an oil change maybe get that done.

Checked oil when bought the car & again week after (& only had car 3 weeks), oil level is fine and still has somewhat of a green tinge, but more brown. Still got 2.5 months warranty left on it, so it'll have to be garage job to change it before that's up.

But after inspection looks to be heat shield little loose.

Cheers for the feedback.

(P.S. strange how some documents say 1.8l and some say 2.0l)
