can any one help with a question, I've got standard 215/45/17 on at the mo but have been offered 2x brand new 205/50/17 for free, would these be ok to put on even if it on the back, I know the width is slightly thinner and the side wall is larger but I can't work out if it is the same, my brain hurts trying to do the maths, I have used the tyre calculator and still can't see the answer, What other tyre sizes are the same as near to the standard size?

Any help would be diamond!

Will be almost 2 per cent larger.
12mm higher with 205. Not too bad to be honest.

215 40 17 are cheap to buy if you are changing all 4.

205 50 17 will be ok. If you aren't lowered.

Ah the clincher, I am lowered but only on springs,
How did you work out that the size difference, my mate has loads of tyres so obviously if he has 2 in the standard sizes I will snap them up but just wanted tO know in my head what other sizes would be ok.

205/50 x 17 will be fine even if you are lowered. I run 225/45 17 with Eibach springs and have no problems at all. 205/50 17 are almost identical radius to my 225's and narrower so deffo no problems.
