Might be of intrest to some of you.

http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=32306&page=1

Im still unsure whether to Honda my Elise, its going off the road soon for some fettling.

For those that don't know it is not cheap around 10K  , I would then need better suspension and wheels (2.5K) :( There is a number of S1 Elises with this conversion running reliably and a couple of S2's and a a few Exiges, one with a supercharger 8) .

Including an Elise at Cadwell - they were more than willing to discuss the transplant

Got to make the decision sooner rather than later, Head Gasket has gone

Im happy really been waiting for an excuse to upgrade, so £850 ish :) for a 160bhp conversion or 10K  for the Honda, hmm as much as I would love to Honda it, 10K is too much dough, reckon I can make up 40bhp, by improving my driving skills.

Downside is my car may be off the road for a month :( :( :(

Im not registered on the Lotus forums.
Can you break down the cost for me as £10k do seem quite a lot for a K20a2 (asuming its the UK engine) transplant?
What ITBs does it have?
The price does include K-Pro + dyno mapping?
Although you probably know the potetional of K20a, I've seen a video of a K20a2 tuned S1 Exige vs a stock S1 Exige. OMG it completely blows the stock Exige by MILES with ease.
reckon I can make up 40bhp, by improving my driving skills.
You'll be making hell lot more than 200hp if its tuned properly with ITBs.

Edit: is this conversion done at Blink MS?

I would have thought to get the best out ITB you would need bigger cams, springs, raised rev limit, etc.

So you wouldn't be getting the best out of them with a stock K20A2 engine.

I've had a pax lap with an Elise with a K20A engine :D but they had to use a UK ECU cause of probs with the Lotus immobiliser. This is a ridicously fast car in the corners a 911 GT3, scoobs, Escort Cosworth, etc were all slowing him down

On the straights you could do with a wee bit more power. He recently got a Unichip and hasn't been on track since getting that but can't wait to see.

I would stick a K20A or A2 in the Elise then you can worry later about sticking ITB, superchargers on. This way you will have very reliable engine instead of that K series engine.

A lot of the costs are down to the custom manifold, custom engine parts, suspension rebuild, etc required for the transplant.

Is this the Jenvey ITB's that Stanwan on the CTR/TypeR forum is developing? I know he was doing some of the testing on an Elise.

Yes Blink do the Honda conversion and it costs upto 10K, then throttle bodies is more, done by another company.

With out wishing to open a huge can of worms, that video is a load of rollocks, the std Exige isnt being pushed.

The problem I have is I would have to run a Yoko A048-R and Oz for sure, as I would almost definetly pay the extra and supercharge it.

Rough Brake down on costs

Nitrons (Upgraded dampers) £1000
Geo for above £150
Supercharger + bits or ITB's £3500
K20a engine, box, ECU, set up £10000
Oz Wheels £1200
Yoko Tyres £750

In all honestly it would be totally awesome, Lou my girlfriend has agreed I can spend the money, to put that in perspective thou you could buy a whole DC5 with that.

There is proberly some trimming on there, possibly knock a couple of K off, I havent got money to burn, and I reckon I would loose most of that on resale.

I bought the Elise mainly due to frustrations with my old car. It was so flipping quick on track, I would be constantly getting stuck in traffic, so sensible head on, Im keeping the car close to standard, well an extra 40bhp over standard isnt bad.

Car's booked in on the 21st just in time for my monthly visit to Bedford Autodrome 8)

Copied opening paragraph;
___________________________________________________________

After running out of fual at the first attempt we added an inline fuel pump (Thanks Bernard ) and got the beastie mapped again.

I'll scan the graphs when I get chance but scores on the doors are :-

240bhp @ 8250

166lbf-ft @7220

140lbf-ft flatish from 2000 to vtec (6200)

at its best 40lbf-ft up on a standard UK spec k20 and 50bhp.

Basically the car now drives quite nicely - unbelievably rapid but if anything quieter than before, map is great - drives like a pussy cat.

Might get some more with a more optimised exhaust manifold but given how well its going perhaps the early one I am running is not far short of the mark.

Don't think there is much more to get without a cam swap.

In summary: Clockwisemotion.com are honda gods and anyone with a honda conversion should get down there and spend some dosh.
