Hello guys,

I think I need my synchros doing. Has anyone had this done recently? Apart from a rebuild kit, what other parts should I consider?

I'd replace the bearings at the same time seen as the box is out. I'd also stick a shorter final drive if you can afford it but it would add an extra 1k to the costs.

I had 1st and 2nd synchros done along with the hub and as said above would have all bearings replaced and all the seals for peace of mind I also upgraded the diff whilst mine was apart

What kind of ratio are you thinking?
It's not my car it's yours hahaha! ;)

Lots of choice mate, I've never had a shorter final drive myself but I've been in a DC5 that's had both a 5.3 and a 5.46 and both FD's were significantly shorter through the gears (Dan's Teg on the clip below). The 5.46 is the more aggressive of the two but you may find it too short, a 5.3 is supposedly the best all rounder for a daily driven car.

If it was me personally it would be a 5.84 as the car very rarely sees long trips or motorways, it's used for work when I don't cycle in and that's only 2 miles each way and then on weekends where it gets a good run out but 5.84 is very aggressive, you also seemingly get a whine like you do from a straight cut gearbox as the M factory final drives are semi helical cut. I personally love the whine noise, the 5.84 is quite loud and the 5.46 is also loud. Here's some clips for you that may help.

Dan off the forum, think he was running a 5.46 when this was taken but is now down to a 5.3

And an EP3 running a 5.84

Hope this helps!
