Getting Insurance Impossible!

Basically no insurance companies know what a dc5 is! I cant seem to find insurance anywhere! The company either think its the older tegs, or a civic! Or they say im too young to get insured.
But basically im looking into buying a dc5 before the end of the year, im 19 now, but will be 20 by the end of the year.
Are the insurance companies not going to insure me untill im 21, or am i just not looking properly?

Ive tried the usual go compare, then started trying Sky, Adrian Flux ect, any other ideas?

Sounds about right at that age, your going to need a miracle and still expect to pay a fortune

You have very little chance of getting a quote if you're under 21.
I bought mine when I was 20 and it sat on my driveway for 6 months till I could insure it. Costs a bomb now, but well worth it!

Dyou mind me asking how much you were paying when you were 20 and what company it was with? I will be 20 in 8 months so if i had to, i could wait as it would be worth the wait!

a 19/20 year old and a DC5 = a very high risk for insurers.
But from what i can see, I can get insurance on a ep3, so why not on a dc5?

Apart from having 20 horses more, and better handling and braking, why is it so different?

I was looking (just for fun) to see how high it would be on an R34 GTR, and its only £2200, so why is the Teg un-insurable?

Also, i can get insurance on a vti civic, and the ek9 civic is about £300 more for 20bhp extra, and the difference between them is handling and brakes too!

I dont understand insurance sometimes lol.
Not all young drivers are hazerdous to other road users.

Sorry if im being a bit nippy, but insurance is silly sometimes!

Its not the power its because its a import that was never sold in this country so body parts etc are more difficult to get so if you have a accident it will cost the insurance company more to repair.

Sorry mate was a bit unclear before, it sat on my drive until I turned 21.
It cost me £220 to change my old car to the teg, for 4 weeks insurance. Ouch!... But it means I finish the policy off and get the years ncb etc.
Looking at £1600 for next years premium, (end of the month). I'm 21, 2 years ncb, 4 years driving, 0 accidents 0 points, 2 named drivers (1 being an older female - literally halves the price of your quote) and a good postcode.

From a lot of ringing around I did when I bought the car, you will not get insured under 21 for a worthwile price. Out of the hundreds of companies I phoned, I got 1 quote of about £5000, which was stupid. I know it's a huge price jump from being under 20 to over 21 but thats insurance for you.
It's a very desirable car, high insurance group, good spec (power, lsd, brakes etc) and of course never sold in the UK... But like I said, well worth the wait!

Gives you time to get saving up at least, then you can get a unblemished one when the time comes!

only £2200...I wish we all could say only! £2200 is alot of money for most....

Insurance dont just look at BHP, they look at all potential aspects of risks doing a risk assessment.....
EP3's are UK spec and parts are easily sourced, they are common and dont really stand out....a dc5 is a specialist car, you have to want one to go and buy it, not just walk into a dealer.....

Parts are harder to source in case of a breakin or accidents, it is a much higher performance car than an ep3 and insurers know you havnt bought it to do the school run.

Although not all young drivers are dangerous, statistics probably show more accidents of youngsters in high performance cars. I remember when i was young, you always want to show off and go driving for no reason! these are all taken into account..if I were you i'd wait....its worth it
