Grinding noise at low revs

Hi guys, picked up my teg on Sunday, and after driving it home I've noticed only what can be described as a grinding noise, transmission related...

Low revs in whatever gear (1st 2nd 3rd are the worst) and when coming to slow down at a junction, holding it in gear... The noise drops off after about 2k/3k rpm or when the clutch pedal is down, but I'm OCD about noises!!

Will my worst fear be confirmed with it being input shaft bearing (or something along those lines) or just a simple release bearing?

Cheers

Okay cheers fella! It's more of a metal grind than a rattle but certainly worth a look! Car is coming off the road for a few months so want to budget for anything that needs fixing!

I suffer from the exact same thing mate and have done for some time.

Many believe it's the front engine mount.

Failing that it's possibly the clutch or at worst input shaft bearing or something else transmission related/LSD.

That's what worries me mate, that it's transmission related.

Get it checked out if it's worrying you.

I don't think it's heatshields as I've had mine taken off and the noise is still there.

Heatshields wouldn't cause the grinding noise he's talking about. It's definitely transmission/clutch or engine mount related I'm absolutely certain of that.

mines used to make this exact grinding noise in 2nd and 3rd gear between 2-4k rpm, manifold heat shield was the issue, wiped it off 10k miles ago no problems since,

I'll get mine checked as I didn't think it could be that. I also didn't think a heatshield would cause a grinding noise either.

I'm absolutely certain with mine it's transmission/engine mount related. Going to get it to my mechanic to check.

If you can imagine a tin sheet loosely held on top of a vibrating exhaust, it gives a grinding sound.

Crazy legs. Just drove to tgm and get a service !!
Too far man. I'm in North Wales I'm miles away.

It will be getting a clutch soon at Grinspeed so will get Steve to check it out. Do wish I lived closer to TGM as they seem to be really good with DC5's, probably the best in the UK but I can't justify the cost of a trip that far down South, not at the moment anyway.

I was looking the other day and they're not as far away as I thought. I was under the impression they were right down South but they're not.

I will still get Grinspeed to do my clutch as he's closer but I may take the car to TGM for an inspection on the noises, see what they say as they seem to deal specifically with DC5's.

Couldn't find anything underneath, going to a gearbox specialist next week for diagnosis

Ah man,

Doesn't sound good that. :/

Makes me wonder whether mine is suffering from potentially the same problems as yours, you'll have to keep us updated.

Hope it's not an expensive one for you dude!
