Headunit panel on DC5

Hi all,

Some of the DC5 owners might find their cars come with a non-detachable face double-din stereo head unit from Japan. If you are replacing it with a single-din headunit, then you will leave a big gap in the lower deck of the headunit panel. So, I ordered a 2002 RSX non Type-S pocket for the panel from the U.S and it's fitted in my DC5 perfectly. Here are the links to some pictures if anyone is interested to have a look:

Andre,

Thats a very neat solution to the problem if replacing the double din.

I've got a double din at the moment but looking to move to a single din as the expander for the radio on the current unit is naff and that solution is a good one..

Is there enough space in the pocket below to store CD's?

Hi Guys,

I haven't checked the forum for a week or so. It's good to see a few more posts. This thread interests me because I starting pulling my dash apart on Saturday to try and see what's behind the double height head unit. I'm always nervous doing this sort of thing because I don't know how much leverage I can put on plastic before it breaks. I'm trying to see how I can connect to the AUX input on the stock double height head unit. Has anyone done this? I'm trying to feed my phone's MP3 output in to it. A picie of the back of your head unit would really be appreciated. I could take it to a car audio shop and hopefully ask for a connector.

Andre - You mentioned in a previous thread that you would like some piccies. Did you mean of my blue DC5 or are you looking for black DC5 shots. I wasn't sure. Where do I email them to if you do want shots of mine?

Hi jonster

Unfortunately, I forgot to take some pictures behind the stereo headunit. But you can take a look at http://performance.clubrsx.com/headunit.html. The hardest bit is shown on the picture, you need to remove both the lower screws with a flexible extension screwdriver. I bought my toolbox with the flexible extension screwdriver and a whole set of adapters and heads from 'Halford' for 8 pounds only. If you order the pocket for RSX then you also have to buy some screws to mount it on the original frame. I got mine from 'Halford' as well (Cross head screws - 6x13mm,HFX142). Another problem I have encountered is the wiring colour convention because the wire colour in DC5 refers to different locations of speakers as the UK ones. Here is what I found out:

Gray colour - Front right
Green colour - Front left
Purple colour - Rear left
White colour - Rear Right

Note: Colours listed above are for the positive wire connection of each speaker. The same colour with a black stripe refers to the same speakers negative wire.

Additionally, I couldn't find the accessory power wire of the unit. So,I requested an alarm installer person to connect the acc power wire for me while fitting the alarm. Accessory power wire is not within the original stereo wire-bundle harness.

Yeah, it would be great if you don’t mind to send some pictures of your Blue DC5 to my email at andre@itr-dc5.co.uk and let me put it in Gallery section. I will set up an online user account feature to let owners to modify their pictures and details in gallery section once I got time.

Cheers

Hi Andre

Thanks for this great information. I had got as far as most of the steps to remove the head unit by myself but the picture showing the upper top left and right securing clips was very useful to see. I hate leavering plastic with a screwdriver because of fear of marking it. The picture showed me exactly where to apply pressure. Fortunately the rubber dash around the head unit doesn't mark at all and returns to it's shape afterwards.

One thing I must point out to all you guys removing you head units. Don't leave the hazard warning light switch disconnected if you are going to drive somewhere. The indicators don't work and I presume the other lights too. I found out the hard way when I wes driving behind a police car. Fortunately I pulled over before he noticed and fixed it.

I was on my way to a car audio shop to get a connection for the AUX/CD changer input. Unfortunately they didn't have one and said it was a non-standard Japanese type connection. I'll try and find another place who might be more helpful. I'm aiming to feed my MP3 phone in to the stereo.

Hi Mark

Here is a number to call. 001(US) (281)-589-0600, ask for Parts Department. That dealer is in Houston, Texas - named 'John Eagle Acura'.

I don't know the part number, but they will sort it out easily as you describe what you want! I have no idea if they will do export (shipping to UK). but its all about $$$ then they should be cool. Mine is my mate's gf brought it over here when she came to visit.
