Help - Cam chain tensioner possibly?

Hi all,

Since owning my car ive noticed its a little tappy sounding, mainly between 3-5000rpm.
Its only quiet and doesnt get louder the more you rev etc.

I thought the cam chain may be a little loose, or is it just me and all the K20a's are a little tappy just because of the nature of the engine?
Its on 77,000 miles currently.

Whats lse could be causing the slightly tappy topend noise?
Would valve clearnaces make a difference?
Or just the cam chain been stretched or tensioner on its way out?

When did it last have the valve clearances done.

Its been in the uk since 2008 and hasnt had them done in that time, and i cant work out from the jap history whether it was done before.

i was planning on checking them when i have a bit of time just to be safe, would this cause a tappy noise?

Get them done specially at that mileage, chances are they have never been touched.

Did you get chance to check the tapping noise ? If so was it the valve clearances causing the noise ?
