hi all

i just joined this site (obviously)

i bought my dc5 itr 8 months ago. i have since put a few Spoon and Mugen bells and whistles onto it and it is now running at 265bhp and 185 lb/ft torque.

hope to add NOS soon

Hello,

Can you prove that BHP and Torque Figure :?:

Also, list you mods

Sorry, just find it very hard to believe those, without knowing what you have done. Simple bolt on Spoon / Mugen bits wont get those figures in my book, others will also agree.

I concur with Mike, mine certainly isn't figuring anything like that, and adding a Spoon or Mugen ECU still won't.

Let us know your mods and we may have to grovel if proved otherwise

Meantime,welcome aboard the DC5 bus :D

ok

well I have had it on two different rolling roads and have the print-outs to prove it.

work done:

full spoon 4-2-1 exhaust system - manifold, decat, centre and high-pressure back-box
spoon drop-in filter
spoon brake pads
Apexi brake discs
iridium spark plugs
Apexi earth kit
Apexi RSM
5w-30 Halv oil
AC under-tie bar
AC oil cap
Mugen fan switch
Mugen thermostat
Water wetter mix with Redline anti-freeze + coolant mixture in the radiator
running super unleaded with Silkolene pro boost most of the time too
carbon fibre rocker cover
carbon fibre manifold cover

this all brought it from 220bhp on the first rolling road test when i got it to the figure of 263.something bhp now and 185.7lb/ft torque on the rolling road 3 weeks ago.

as you can see, the majority of work done so far isn't really performance orientated, but some of it is. the guy i deal with is from singapore and he is a top man - he could probably build any honda engine blindfolded. he suggested all these things and the proof is in the rolling road figures. the apexi rsm and the spoon exhaust system made a big difference with the rsm configured properly.

i have beaten numerous cars (some by a good stretch) in 1/4 mile sprints, including an audi s3 (225bhp), scooby sti wagon (pro-drive running 317 bhp), honda s2000 (275 bhp) - he had serious traction problems haha, multiple DC2's and any civic (including one with 50bhp nos) so far.

it really is THAT good.

what is currently on order and due in the next month or so is:

spoon throttle body
spoon ecu
c-west kit including bumpers, skirts, lids and carbon fibre bonnet
clutchmaster fx-300 clutch
flywheel
final drive
spoon lsd

i am also looking into adding 70bhp nos, but this seems to be a bit of a quagmire so far!!

if any of you guys are ever over here and fancy meeting up at an upcoming Mondello track day, I can show you instead of just talking about it. i am well used to disbelief at this point and most of the time it ends up in a race to prove it. that and showing them the rolling road print-outs

Howdy,

That power output is a little hard to believe for me too, especially without a mapped ECU. I don't think the Spoon drop-in will give you any noticeable power without a ram-air feed (ie 5Zigen). That leaves a lot for the exhaust sytem to be responsible for the rest of the power.

I could believe it if you had a mapped 2.4 litre setup or some sort of FI.

Don't waste your money on the Spoon TB. Get your stock one taper bored to the same spec and save your money.

my mate from singapore has a company that trades here and the UK - www.coutureauto.com. their parent company operates from singapore and they are specialists in honda mainly, but do other cars like scoobys, skylines etc. everything that has gone in so far was recommended by him and the proof is on the rolling road and the track. i must admit i was suprised myself, but having done track days and rolling roads, i am happy with it.

i can understand it being hard to believe, but i am going to scan in the last rolling road sheet. my mate has the video of that rolling road day too, so i can convert it to avi and post it somewhere if you guys want.

fact of the matter is - that is it's power. hard to believe or not, it's the truth.

stage 2 is on it's way and the power is expected to be up on 280bhp approx. i'm also looking into getting spoon cams, pulleys, valves, valve springs etc - but this is VERY expensive when labour is taken into account also.

there is no easy way to prove this. i can post the sheet from the last rolling road, hell i can even post the video, but no matter what, there will be some sceptic who won't believe. we are planning on going over to santa pod in the new year, so when the time comes, if any of you fancy it, i'll post and pop down to it if you want.

Edit: The scanner here in work is crap, but I scanned in the sheet anyway - u can at least see the power curve and the figures at the top.

shant tell him that on the rolling road on Sat with Mike i pushed out a shade under 300bhp, 254 @ the fly wheel and 214 flb toruque :D sorry had to say it ive been walking around with a smile on face for the last couple of days :D

Welcome to the forum :!:

Truffs,Thors dynos are recorded at the hubs.

What fig did they give for @ hubs?

(I am guessing at approx 245)

They told me to use 18% for their diff between hub and fly?

(e.g. 245/82 * 100 = 299ish)

cheers :)

simon why do you always confuse me  i thought i'd just got this lark sorted out :D i will let you have a look on sunday but the figure was 300bhp (just under) and 254bhp with 214lb of torque :?:

I still find this very hard to believe, sorry!

I would like to see the power at the wheels graph tbh, then we can canculate the fly wheel figure.

Do you know what loss percentage they used to calculate the fly wheel figure?

I hope you got the dyno before and the one after done at the same place ? this is the only way to tell, as all rolling roads give different figures as we all know.

If I'm wrong, then I'll hold my hands up

Looks like they're now saying 15% then :? :(

Means mine's running 222bhp @ fly

and Anty's is around 206bhp @ fly

(rolling roads eh???)

i scanned in a colour version of that graph below in the link. the spoon drop-in filter does make a slight difference - not much, but a little.

truffs - is ur teg just under 300 at the flywheel and 254 at the wheels? that is serious power man - gj! what have you done to her to get that?

The green power at the wheels seems more like it. Wait until you have her running with a replacement ECU or better still a mapped ECU (ie Hondata).

I have to agree with Jon here as well!

If you look at the green line compared to the blue, esp at the top end, they should be a near mirror, just offset, they are a different shape! Just my observations.

Also, as Jon said, a programmable ECU will make better job than a spoon one, with a prog one, it can be tuned to your mods, not a general map that will be on the Spoon ECU.

Your Find Truffs car has a turbo, which was done out in Japan, Truffs brought the car like that!

At the same time mine went on the dyno pack, I got 268.4 bhp at the hub, so about 316.7 at the fly, this was at 8500 rpm, but I still had another 400 rpm to go! Torque was less than though, max 181.8 ft/lb at 6914 rpm.

Mines Super Charged, but I might have a slight issue, I'm investigating this, need to buy another gauge though, to measure my EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp).

Truffs car has shed loads more torque than mine, for the time being! with luck watch this space over the next few months, that’s all I'm going to say!

ah, i see where the confusion was. my bad - i didn't say my figures were at the flywheel. anyway, it pales compared to truffs monster!

am looking forward to the spoon ecu + throttle body. i have to get the tappets done too - i tellz ya - it's an expensive hobby!

Edit: I was advised against putting a supercharger or turbo in the teg until i had 100k on the clock!!??

Hummmmm

Why?

Chaps in the US Turbo / SC brand new RSX's all the time, without issues!

Just wondering?

i cheated though. Greddy very kindly kitted it out 4 me in Japan at a price of k6 with a few other 'goodies' but the previous owner paid for it :D

@MJ: the guy who advised me reckons there was a serious chance it could toast the block until she had hit at least 100k - i thought it was weird too!

@truff: luck swine : :lol:
