Right, Ive been on here for a little while reading posts and doing a little research, and hopefully soon I'll be purchasing a Dc5! :) :) I'm still trying to way up costs and such and the only thing that I haven't actually checked out is the specialist insurers. I've had a few quotes from the only companies online that seem to have the dc5r on they're sites (Admiral, bell, elephant, sainsburys, churchill) and they all seem extremely steep! (ranging from 1500 to 2700 or just won't even quote me!) now Im 26, 1 year on my license 1 years NCB, I live in a nice area and will only do about 5000 miles a year. How much cheaper can I expect this to be if not at all?

I think £1500 isn't bad considering you've only been driving a year. You might get a cheaper quote with some specialist companies as they tend to favour those over 25.

I was kinda thinking 1500 was my max to be honest and that quote would require me to have a black box fitted! So i kinda dismissed it! Kinda takes away the point of owning one really ;)

I was 25 when I first insured my teg, with something like 4 years license and 2 years no claims, can't exactly remember how much it was but it was cheaper than that, around £850 mark I think with green light, once I had a full years in the teg dropped to £600ish mark.

Just hoping I don't have to wait another two or three years to be able to afford the insurance!

With a 1yr Licence and 1yr NCB £1500 is a fantastic price i dont think you will beat that at all.

Kind Regards

I was 23 when I got mine with 5 years driving and 4 years no claims. And it was still £1200. It's about £350 now that I'm 31! Haha!

Sounds like I've got three options
1. Take the cheapest quote and have a black box fitted for three months.
2. Pay out of my nether regions for a policy without a black box (at least 2k)
3. Wait a year or two and hope that it gets cheaper (not that it necessarily will by the sounds of it!)
Which would you guys choose?

Personally If you want it enough;

Option 2: Pay it monthly, It somehow hurts less that way.

Otherwise;

Option 1: If you really feel like you can buy a DC5 and not use Vtec, because if you do....BANG, black box kicks in harder than Vtec does.

Option 3: Go buy an EP3, or something else 200bhp(ish) gain the experience in a higher powered car for the insurance while having fun in the process until the year you get a quote you consider reasonable enough.

Unfortunately we require a minimum full licence for 3yrs

The only downside with going with one of the mainstream insurers is the worry that if they actually know what a DC5 is and how would they value it in the event of a total loss :(

you can't be serious with this quote surely?

Not all mainstream insurers are clueless, in fact wasn.t it Sky (the specialist insurer) who recently offered seijik on here just £3800 for his written off ITR DC5, then tried to palm him off with a 2.0 auto Integra, no idea even what model it is, base auto by the looks of it, this one i believe it was...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201511098563278?make=honda&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&sort=default&search-target=usedcars&postcode=al49sl&model=integra&radius=1500&page=1&quicksearch=true&logcode=p

clearly Sky don't have the first idea about the cars they insure either..

Not all specialists are special.

(ex unsatisfied sky customer) can you tell?? :xlol: :xlol:

For a standard car Admiral are the cheapest for me

For a modified car Greenlight is coming up the cheapest, and they know what they are talking about :)
