How much rust is normal????

Hi Guys,

Im just about to get most of the car re-sprayed, bumpers off, windows out, seals out the works! I asked the body shop to drop the bumpers first and acess how bad the rust is behind the front and rear bumper and found the following in pics. The car has already had a rust proof paint put on it which looks a rusty color so you need to look close to see whats rust and whats the paint, but would appreciate people thoughts with experience with there own tegs.

Im gonna purchase the POR metal prep remover anyway and re-do the frames behind and have it all spanking before the bumpers are put back on painted.

haha mate ive already read your thread, it was your thread that prompted me to check the underneath of my teg so thankyou, fair play to you though i can see your making the car look awesome now!!

I wouldn't really be majorly concerned about anything there, looks pretty clean for the age of the car. At least your getting on top of it now so it should still last a long long time, I've seen 3 or 4 year old cars with worse rust than that!

thanks for the feedback mate, yeah in an ideal world I would buy a fresh import as I hate any rust but im in too deep to see my money back on this car so may as well continue and its been mechanically faultless in the 2 years i have owned it so that's a bonus!

that's normal for a car that has been here 8/9 years in all weather snow rain.. unprotected..

that what most of them are like..some people don't understand why importing one is much better

Mine's only been here since 2011 though, so perhaps that's all that's in it?!

ha ha, thanks dude, my life is full of bigger car related issues trust me, like having an s2000 and three civic type rs for sale, car sales seems to of died a death!
