How often do you consider selling?

For the past 6 months now I've been getting that itch to get a new car.. Having owned the teg for almost 2 and a half years, it's now the longest I've owned any one car!

There's no doubt the teg still puts a smile on my face. I love its rare factor. People are always asking about it when they see it parked up. What is it, is it stock, what're they worth, am I selling etc. etc.

I do notice myself more and more lately having a nosey around on pistonheads at whats on the market and I've been in a position for some time now to sell up and 'upgrade'. However, I find myself chopping and changing my mind every 10 seconds on what I want.... sell the teg, keep the teg, boost the teg, don't boost, keep the teg, sell it, keep it ](*,)

There's quite a lot to choose from on the market but I do find myself drawn to the Mk2 Focus RS. A garage I drive past every day for work has just plopped a rather nice green one in their showroom and I'm constantly rubber-neckin' to get a good look at it.

But I find myself asking the same questions... Would it even be worth it? would I feel the same way about this new car in 6 months as I do about the teg now?

Another nag in the back of my mind is that if I hold onto the teg, what'll it be worth in 5...10 years time? With honda now going turbo, the dc5 and fd2's are sort of the last NA screamers.. what's that going to do to the value of the car in years to come?

I'm really curious to know how often do people on here consider selling and trying something different? Any x-teg owners? What cars did you move onto? Anyone sell up, regret, and come back?

I look on pistonheads quite frequently just having a nosey but I never get thoughts of selling really. I would only be tempted by a handful of cars that are well over financial availability. Such as an R34.

Thinked I'm helped by the the fact I'm only interested in Japs cars

Don't get me wrong, I think most of us would love an R34 skyline or something along those lines if we could afford it! I've always been a huge fan of the Supra. Absolutely adore them and have done since I got interested in cars over a decade ago - BUT! I can't convince myself ~18/20k for a 15/20 year old car would be worth it. Plus I'd settle for no less than a single turbo setup on it, and that certainly doesn't come cheap at all :(

Yeah that's true. I think it all depends what we use our cars for. As I'm usually using mine for commuting so rarely get chance to open it up. Whereas if it was only a weekend car I would probably spend alot more time driving and look for more fun alternatives.

The last couple of months have the same for me too.

Was close to part ex'ing.

GT86, R32 GTR or an EVO are on the top of my list, something that's no FWD.

Cutting a long story short, I've had the teg 5 years and just before xmas I put her up for sale to scratch the skyline itch, purchased an r34 Gtr, both cars are stock and wow..the r34 does not come close to the teg, what an over priced boring car!

Sure if you spend a fair chunk of money and have it running 600bhp it may be a different story but an r34 is well over rated IMO, test drove a few nice cars over the years, Megan cup 250, seat Cupra, Audi s5 and none of them had the fun factor I'm used to, my advice would be keep the teg as it will be a big gap to fill, what ever car you may view test drive it for as long as possible

I'm so glad mine didn't sell, it will now be kept for a very long time, good luck with your search

Ex DC5 owner here ;) went for the FD2 HERE
Did miss it for a bit and ummed and arred for a while even considered a Porsche 911 but wondered about the running cost's, once purchased the FD2 is the same as the Teg for running cost's

I'm highly likely going to flog the Teg later this year as I'm coming into some cash I hope. I've always had an itch for a bike engined kit car, specifically an MNR Vortx but I'd take an MK Indy or Mac1 as well ideally with a CBR 1000 or Yamaha R1. A friend had one with a CBR 600 engine and it was unreal, after owning Hondas it's the only thing out there I feel would satisfy my needs. Revs to 14-15k, sequential box and can take a thrashing so I will highly likely be going down that route if all goes to plan. Bit of a dream at the moment but if not I will keep the DC5 and do a few things to improve the braking and possibly fit a final drive. Going to see how it pans out over the course of this year.

Yep all the time and more so in the last 6-8 months. The Teg is more my track car although it can be used as a daily which I do from time to time. I have been toying with the idea of getting a Nissan 350z and I even drove a modified one and loved it but the problem I have is my heart truly lies with Subaru and so I find my self constantly wanting one of them. I have had three and currently have a gorgeous Impreza WRX as my daily but I so want to get an STi as a track car.

As I have some track days booked, I decided to see how I feel at the end of 2016 and go from there. However, I've now just bought a big brake kit which was offered to me at a great price so now I would be stupid to get rid as the money invested in the Teg is quite a bit.

Now, a spanner has been thrown in the works and I have been offered my old Lotus Elise back from my father in law. It was always the plan to get it back but just not yet, maybe in 5 years time. So now we are a bit stuck so the current plan is to get rid of the Teg in 5 years, and the Elise will replace it as the track car. The Impreza WRX will be changed for a Subaru Impreza STi or possibly a Subaru BRZ and my wife, who also loves Subaru's as much as I do will get rid of her MX5 for a Forester XT or STi.

The only problem is I will get itchy feet and keep changing my mind :)

Ive thought about going older....EK9. Purely for the go kart feel, but that fling lasted 5 or 6 months. I purchased a £300 winter beater and got back in the teg over xmas and it blew my mind again! It was at that point my wallet became possessed and big purchases started happening to help rekindle the spark...it's working haha. Its not the fastest car in the world, but its a simple, fun, quick, great looking machine. Im struggling to think of anything non turbo that would do the same for the money. Nsx but thats a few years away.

Total agree with the above statement

But to the original op, life is short and if you can try different things. If you don't like it you've got the actual experience to have an opinion and can always buy another teg.

Not been in a mk2 RS focus, but I can imagine it can be a hoot in its own right. Have a test drive

I sold my Teg just over a year ago after 7 and a half years of ownership; I cried when it drove away with the new owner (I'm serious!).

A holiday and few weeks later I bought an E46 M3. It's taken me almost 12 months to gel with it but I now have that feeling where I want to change things like I did with the Teg :)

The Teg (and K20) is pretty hard to beat as an all rounder but a change and trying new things is what life is all about, surely?.. You can always buy another one ;)
