Basically long story short is I need a new engine and there is an ep3 with a dc5 engine for sale locally..but how would I know that the engine is definitely from a dc5? Any codes or anything I can look for?

I'm
Obviously going to swap it from the ep3 to the dc5 so need to know for sure.

Many thanks

Engine codes are different:
JDM engine is K20a
UK engine is K20a2

Think that's right lol

Look for the code under the inlet manifold next to the starter motor. It should be stamped on the block. Make sure is a K20A.

tbh, it really wont make any difference if you have kpro, the lower compression and slightly less aggresive cam profiles of the ep3 respond better to our fuel so give almost the same power once tuned as the k20a.

compression is very slightly lower, cam profiles different, there is an oil pressure switch on an ep3 thats not on the dc5 (for the vtec) thats pretty much it
it would be very hard to tell really

A quick check might be to check the inlet manifold has PRC stamped on it. It's not fool proof because they could have added a PRC or some other manifold at a later date but if it has the standard ep3 manifold stamp..... (any takers? lol) then it could be an indication of the fact that its a k20a2.
