Right chaps I am in the next few months going to spend a few quid on some front components and a small sub (10" max) and amp.

My thoughts were a set of Infinity components up front, Alpine 4 channel amp and a sub in sealed enclosure.

I also ideally want to do this on a budget of no more than £500, ideally nearer £400 would be better as I dont like having loads of pounds worth of ICE in cars as I had a load robbed in my younger days :(

The thought was to hook the front speakers up 2 of the channels and bridge the other two channels to run the sub, I am not looking to shake McDonalds windows just provide a reasonably full sound as currently its truly shocking in the car :x :x

I mainly listen to Indy / Rock type music although occasionally I do push the boat out with some dance music

Any thoughts, product suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am about 5 years out of touch with the ICE world :(

Also would it be worth adding a little dynamat to the doors or am I fighting a loosing battle with the sound quality in the Dc5?

Thanks for any help 8)

This is the exact thing i am dealing with at the moment too. Was also thinking about the infinty components for the fronts, and some generally reasonable speakers for the rears,.

I already have an alpine iDA-x001 so the head unit is more than capable

But this is one of my next projects too :D

I've a suggestion for you...instead of going for crud because of small budget, why not got for second user high end audio?

The boxed 10 idea should work well - get your hands on a JL 10W3V2 or 10W6 (both are available on eBay)

As for front components, there are plenty of nice Seas, DLS, Rainbow, KEF, Focal, Diamond out there - pound for pound new Infinity/Pioneer/JBL etc can't compare with these audiophile speakers.

Amp wise, old is gold, sadly. The new amps focus more on quantity than quality - hence I've got amps that are 9 years old in design but are still the best made by that manufacturer.

If you want some buying tips, feel free to drop me a line.

I have actually been on the lookout on ebay at secondhand amps

Just a little worried that they have been poorly setup and run thus causing issues with the amp....is this unfounded worry and there's not really anything that can be wrong with an amp :D

There's actually not too many ways of damaging an amp; the thing is that if an amp is wired to cause it damage, this damage will be apparent very quickly and the amp will fail so if you buy a working amp, then that's reasonable proof that it's not been miswired in its life.

The other thing is if you're buying audiophile equipment then it will have been bought by someone who knows what they're doing and installed by someone who knows what they're doing. Contrast this with mainstream equipment which could be bought by a complete ignoramus and potentially badly installed.

It's a bit like buying a DC5 - the average pleb wouldn't have bought one because they're a specialist car - so for the most part they're well looked after and in decent nick.

I think a 12" sub would be better for you mate if you don't listen to a lot of Dance.

A 12" is a better all rounder.
