Insurance not getting better

Chaps,

I just need to vent my anger and displeasure at the insurance companies.

Isn't life supposed to get easier as we get older?

I've had the Teg a few years and like all of you, am frustrated at the astronomical amount we pay but also the difficulty in finding the right car on their databases ( most purchase this from DVLA ).

I don't mind paying a few ££ extra for a good service and piece of mind knowing that if ever I had an accident, my insurance company would always settle for the best possible outcome for me, their customer - unfortunately, I've been there and that isn't always the case.

This year, my insurance has gone up £230, nothing to warrant a hike ( Admiral ) and when I asked for a better quote, the best they could give me was a £50 loyalty discount.

I've just checked, it's cheaper for me to insure an NSX than it is to insure the Teg, which to me, is ludicrous, parts etc are far more expensive.

I'm beginning to feel that this this whole insurance situation getting out of hand

On the face of it, I agree but when you look more carefully you'll see that the claims loss ratio of Integras is much, much worse than it is for NSX's. NSX's are generally second cars with very limited mileage therefore pose a minimal risk to insurers. It's not all about power and repair costs.

Same reason why EP3's are amongst the most expensive cars to insure in the UK.
So if this is the case, why do more sensible mature drivers like myself still have to be tarred with the same stick and charged well over the top for insurance, surely you look at each premium as an individual quote? i seem to get penalised just because i drive the same car , i also can insure an NSX for around half what i'm paying for my DC5!! it may have to go soon.... hello NSX

With respect, everyone thinks they are the lowest risk driver on the road , insurers (more so specialists) do look at the bigger picture but when you have a vehicle with such a bad claims loss ratio it has a knock on effect for everyone driving that model. I see where you are coming from but by the same token you'd charge the same price for someone living in Moss Side Manchester as Truro in Cornwall, the risk differences there are night and day.

so if some 22 year old chav with 4 years experience and 3 citroen saxo's under his belt came to you wantin a quote for an NSX you would think he is low risk like other NSX drivers are, because how you're thinking is that everyone that drives a DC5 is high risk

I have an NSX and DC5 and the nsx is half the price on insurance, the problem is the NSX's here are mostly UK cars (they are 100k plus in japan now) so therefore non imports are cheaper on insurance,The NSX is a very rare car and statistics probably show a lot less claims on them than the DC5...

i think youre missing my point...

why do i get labelled a high risk just because of the car i drive, i'm 40 sumthing, with 21 years claim free insurance, but surely i'm just as likely to crash in an NSX as i am in a DC5 just because chavs are crashing DC5's shouldn't make me a high risk, but according to insurance companies it does.... i can insure a 2003 nsx for £230 fully comp ffs! my 2004 dc5 is up for renewal now and is £520

Its a hard one I agree...but they are totally different cars,NSXs are usually owned by mature ownes,a 2003 nsx will cost you 50k, a dc5 a lot less so young owners have them and push up our premiums up,its just the way it is,an nsx is a specialist car as its very rare owners use them every day,its also a 2 seater....all cars are risk assessed and that's just the way it is,I agree with you 100 percent, one good thing is I heard Insurance companies will be investigated due to their unfare premiums,I did a quote online and it came up at 5k!! And when I called it was 1k!

but why should my premium be pushed up because 'young people' just happen to drive the same car?.. thats what gets me mad, its like insurance companies think ooo youre far to old and sensible to drive one of those so we'll charge you way too much, because a lot of claims come in on this particualr model.. its all a load of testes if u ask me.... get a grip insurance companies!!!

No, we know what we are doing, some other insurers on the other hand do not. We have to use our underwriters' vehicle ratings but we look at the bigger picture rather than just a computer driven quotation.

I see your point but how else should insurers do it? You could use your same arguement for postcode risks, charge someone living in Manchester the same price as someone living in Cornwall? Insurers use statistics, if statistics show the DC5 is high risk, then you'll pay more for a DC5 than an equivalent vehicle.

Well I paid £1400 with Admiral last year and it's coming up for renewal and I'm afraid if it's any more than that this year the Teg will be gone! Too much to pay for a second car as much as I love the thing and missed it as soon as I sold my old one :(
