Jap Auction finds

I've always looked at it that it's the same as buying a car at auction in this country more or less. You buy it on appearance and face value at a significantly lower price than a dealer would sell for knowing it might need a couple of things done or might not come with all the service history.

Also, if car sales in this country are anything to go by, people seem to be very good at misplacing all the paperwork for their cars.

I bet a large amount of imports do come with service books but get lost. My dc5 didn't come with one, my other dc5 did and I spent ages translating it only for it to be back up for sale without it, and my impreza has come with a service book.

Just picking up this thread and the post up the page got me thinking

Why don't many imports come with original documents, service history etc.?

I imagine it would be no different over there and they would follow a service regime with a stamped book, invoices etc.?
Many of the cars I personally import for customers do come with service history records HOWEVER - you are right in that they don't follow the same simple system of a service book with stamps in.

If a import doesn't come with original grade sheet, invoice price and export info then it's normally because the importer personal or corporate is trying to hide its history - In my opinon I would advise people to NEVER buy a DC5-R without a record of import and it's original import certificate or dealer advert record -

Good advice from Andy above.. all honest importers will made extra copies of documents to pass onto their customers.. also you can always get a BIMTA check done just to verify more further

I initially was looking at getting one of these. Could not find one at auction at all so decided to change my attack angle and go for the Teg instead. Still, would like to own one.

Anyone link me somewhere to pick up a set of those sweet flame mats and a Drifting steering wheel for my DC5?

Theres no accounting for taste I guess.

2001s called, they want their car back. It's strange japanese seem to do a lot of body mods but leave the engine.
