JDM 'Ground Effect' downforce diffuser

Just found out my 'Teg has these fitted alongside the rear diffuser:

What the hell are they? They were obviously fitted in Japan.

The cynic in me says it's rubbish.

The physicist in me says it could in theory work.

They also sell an adjustable one.

No way in hell of telling the difference it makes short of asking McLaren (or others) to use their aerodynamics chambers.

Haha yea I gathered they were a load of rubbish, but for hassle of getting udner the car and taking it off, plus the novelty of it coming from Japan, I'll keep it/them on.
