My dads car was recently towed from A to B, and a slight scratch/mark was left on his paint work, i said it should just polish out, but he seems to think you cant polish metallic paint.

I thought this was balls, but now he's got me thinking.

Can polish be used on metallic paint? :?

It doesn't matter what colour the car is when you use an abrasive polish you are essentially polishing out the scratch in the clear coat, whether it can be removed completely will depend on the depth of the scratch.

But it wont affect the metallic finish will it?
No, the mettalic is the layer underneath, you are usually polishing the lacquer layer on top, unless the scratches are deep enough to hit the mettalic part of your paint.

as said, it doesnt matter what colour it is as your polishing the clear coat on top of it.

run your finger nail across the scratch, if u can feel it with your nail, it will most likely not come out as it will be through the clear coat and into the paint, but you should be able to take the bad look of it
