Kakimoto Regu Or Spoon N1 + B-Pipe?

Hi all, I have looked at a lot of the exhaust threads, to the avail of much good info :). However I'm after more of a specific comparison here.

I am running a (nearly new) Kakimoto Regu cat back exhaust and am considering changing to a Spoon N1. I am after a bit more sound and a tad more free-flowing performance. Does this sound like I'm barking up the right tree? Also do I go for just the N1 back box or the B pipe as well?

Another thing is the silencers on the Kakimoto are quite large, and the Spoon ones seem smaller (I have to go over a few speedbumps and have to go over at an angle), am I right in thinking the Spoon is not quite as deep?

Cheers all

I've done that swap :).

It all started with a kakimoto full mega N1, so similar to the regu, just not a burnt tip and a straight cut polished tailpipe.

Mine was old, and welds/ baffles were letting go so I removed it, and long story short I now have a spoon Bpipe and N1. ... I adore the noise it makes now. It's brilliant. You can be sensible with it and make not much noise at all, similar to the kakimoto just a tad deeper, but you don't have to rev the nuts off it to get as much noise porn as the kaki. :p so a quick blip and its enough to tickle you ears leaving you wanting more.lol

The b pipe plays a massive difference in all of this though. I did have the spoon n1 mounted to an OEM b pipe which was nice and sedate....but tbh too quiet and sensible. At 70 mph with the oem/ n1 setup it was a lot more droney than with the spoon Bpipe and n1 which did surprised me.

But I loved the noise of my kakimoto....so I'm now waiting for my broken kakimoto n1 back box to be repaired and I'm getting it customised to fit the spoon Bpipe. Should be lovely. But I'm keeping all boxes and pipes so I can interchange with many combinations for track and what not should I need to.

If you want to read my story in depth, (with pictures) have a read through my build thread buddy. I go quite in depth with descriptions and changes that I will be making.....there's a few pages though mind. Haha

In short, kaki is quieter than the spoon, a more grown up sophisticated noise, yet sounds awesome on full throttle.
The spoon just gives you a big big grin from ear to ear when you want to have a play, or even part throttle gives nice gargles and burbles as you work your way through the gears driving normally. Just awesome really. I shall report back with my spoon and kaki hybrid when that is done too :)

Hope this helps

Ive done
OEM Manifold and B Pipe with N1
OEM Manifold with Spoon B pipe and N1
Now DC Sports manifold Spoon B pipe and N1

Backbox with OEM b pipe like James said its pretty dull
The B pipe makes a huge difference and does sound amazing

Now with the DC Sports im 104DB, its really loud but in my opinion its awesome and less drone than with OEM manifold

I'm not mating mine to a regu, but to this one. The kakimoto full mega N1

(Same one just polished)

I can't wait either haha

Thanks for the very detailed reply Jimmer, and Shortstuff too. Jimmer, as you've basically done what I'm thinking of doing, how would you say the Spoon exhaust compares in terms of power delivery as I've read the Kakimoto can be a little restrictive?

Tbh I've noticed no difference buddy. im just standard apart from that and the car has been smooth on power delivery with both. I noticed it alittle restriction at the top end of the rev range when I went to a full OEM setup but tbh I think that was just a placebo effect as I couldn't hear anything out the back giving the impression that I was going slower haha. (It only lasted s day until I'd cleaned my spoon n1. Lol )

If you decide to stick or change, unless your running big big power the car and the noise it makes will not disappoint you ;)

Kakimoto is restrictive vs a 3" exhaust but it's still bigger diameter (2.38" vs 2.25") vs oem. But it really depends if ultimate numbers matter to you more than looks and noise. To put it another way when I ditched my 3" exhaust for kakimoto regu06r I lost 12.5 hp and I couldn't care less as it sounds sooooooo good. Still running it over 300hp

To through a spanner in the works, my Megan Racing Drift Spec that I bought from the states is 2.5'' all the way through with no restrictions or bottlenecks, looks similar to the Kakimoto Full Mega N1 and I made 265hp with full I/H/E.

The engine has suspected top end work however and will need to get this confirmed but it's a bloody good exhaust.

As a previous owner, forget performance gains from an exhaust. just get the one that you think sounds and looks the best for your requirements.
NA tuning is pointless if your looking to improve performance. If you want more performance from a teg get a supercharger or enjoy it as it is and save up for something quicker.
