Just got my coilovers back the other week after spending a bomb getting them reconditioned etc and i started getting a nasty knocking noise from the front, had my local garage check it out an they found some movement in the front struts, anyone had this problem an any ideas on how to resolve??

Any help will be appreciated big time, dont want to have to send them away back to recon place as they take forever.

Cheers

Yes mate. I bought a set of ohlins second hand and had them sent directly to aurok to be re-valved and serviced. I then had tgm fit them do all the geo to find out that one of the seals had a split, not what you expect after spending over £400 having them serviced. However they did send one of their engineers out repaired them the next day and re fitted but iwas in a mega rush to get them sorted as i was going to the ring that week.

I don't like bad mouthing companies especially on forums but i know tom at tgm had problems with repairs/servicing he had done in the past, he does know one of the girls who works there which i think helped getting them sorted very quickly. I can't really thank tom enough for helping me out as he was up to his neck in work and ended up spemding more time getting my car sorted for no added cost.

If you open the bonnet you will see a 21mm bolt in the centre of top mount, this can work its way loose when steering, it did on mine! try tightening it up. If it has come loose you may get clanging from the spring when turning did on mine also but they have settled now.

One thing i've noticed is any little bump i go over i seem to get rattles come from shocks, i think this is to do with the pillow ball mounts but not too sure, maybe somone with more experience of using coilovers can expalain! One thing i will say they have transformed my car on track however i wouldn‘t recommend these for road use only, too noisy and stiff even on softess setting imo.

Thanks very much for the info mate, i will check the nut on top mount when i get back my holidays. It sounds like that could be the problem with what you are describing.

Cheers again.

OMG you took it to AUROK??? I have posted a bad review of this company on the forum after receiving a crap service from them a couple of years back.
I bought second hand coilovers too! I took my car to them to check my coilovers to see if theres any problem seems like they did not have a clue!!! They dont know nothing about wheel alignment because they done my car with some strings and said it was more accurate than the laser machines!! i feel like a mug for paying them i was so angry when i left i wanted to burn down their workshop :xmad: lol. Also Never leave your car in there to get anything done i heard my car get thrashed on the roads when they took it out on a spin!! Their excuse= no i did not i was testing your car suspensions... (Im thinking what on a straight road vtecing it for 30+ seconds)??
I dont understand why they couldnt find a problem when driving it or checking it and the call themselves pros with many year experience in this and that ....... I could go on and on to slag this company so i will have to stop here lol

Anyway took it TGM tom took my car for a spin came back sorted my Geo and told me there was a slight play in the ball joint.. Top man Tom

One question does your ohlins feel really soft at the rear ?
I can bounce my car up and down with one hand at the rear

Hope you get it sorted mate, my advice to anyone with ohlins dont take your car there as this is not the first complaint i heard.
I will be taking my ohlins elsewhere to get them serviced.

alright 12T. There is no way i can bounce the rear up and down with one hand its pretty solid even on softest setting, must be different springs. Do you find yours noisy/rattly?

Nope no noise on my one well not until now lol my front ball joint went a few weeks ago, its making rattling noise just on the passenger side the problem that tom pointed out a couple of years ago lol.

Its either i have different springs or they have been used and abused haha
I think when i go for a service im going to change the springs any recommendations?

It brings back memories of my HKS ones.

They needed to be resealed and rechromed as there was damage all on the top half.

Only problem i ever had with my car and i never got it fixed as i only found out just before i sold it.

Drove me nuts  .

My springs are ohlins also my top mounts are ohlins. Is your coilovers from uk or japan my one is from japan.
I think I will take mine to silverstone there's a company there that does it too, my cousin went there with his evo a while ago to get his done. I think uk ohlins have many franchises or distributers or I might send them to japan to get it done not sure yet.

mine were from japan, the ohlins coilovers in japan are made by a company called soki so i've been told. If yours are that soft why didn't aurok spot this when servicing :? they do have the testing facilities.

Off topic: U got any trackdays booked i'm looking at cadwell october 11th?

I dont know y they didnt test it? All i know i would never go back there again.

Was u at rockingham HOT with us last year?
No track days this year i cant afford it. New baby new business i broke as hell, i cant even afford new tyres lol. I will be doing track day next year for definite, my timing chain is a bit loose so my car is off the road. My coilovers need servicing, oil service, new tyres the list goes on lol.

Hi folks, finally got this problem resolved.

Turns out Aurok didnt gas them properly so basically im running without suspension, the knocking was the c/o's bottoming out very regularly.

I am now sending my coilovers elswhere to get fixed properly, thanks again for all help though.

Cheers

I can't believe how many people are having problems with this company  . When you spend £500 on a service and you get them back in worse condition its disgraceful. Was it aurok who told you they were bottoming out? where will you send them now?

Aurok said "it may be lack of gas pressure in them thats causing the knocking and its nothing to worry about, the car can be driven as normal, just send them back and we will re-gas them" (for a cost)

After speaking to a friend in the car industry who got a specialist to look at them, it was confirmed they were bottoming out, he even showed me whilst up on a ramp (he could push the wheel up into the arch with his hands!) which even an monkey could tell you, is dangerous!!

I have decided to just buy new coilovers as i am fed up of sending them back and forward,
I will sell the Ohlins as they are, at a reduced price an someone else can fix them.

I will be kicking up sh*t with Aurok tho as im not a happy bunny, the advice given by them was clearly lies and dangerous! I paid over £600, and not been able to use my car, not what i expected.
