Many Questions.....

Hi guys, just joined the forum, dont own a DC5 unfortunately so hope you dont mind me joining....
Currently 18 and driving a 1.4 EK Civic, looking at getting a DC5 ITR in 4 years after finishing Uni.... just thought Id start a bit earlier and get some research done for the future.
Have several questions to ask. Been looking on that japaneseperformancecars.co.uk import place and the prices dont seem too bad at all, theyre even cheaper than UK prices if that car ever came out here....

Im going to aim to save around £10k over these 4 years, Ive noticed I will not be able to purchase anything on that site as its almost new so may save a bit more, maybe £15k and then invest.

1. If i was to have around £10 k to spend on one, what sort of year/mileage/condition would I be able to get this car in, please note were thinking 4 years ahead so in 2008/9.
2. Secondly what is insurance like, considering Im going to be about 22/23 with maybe 1 or 2 years NCB. Will I get insured for a fair amount? What insurers insure imports?
3. Thirdly, will the manual come in English, if not, where do I find out what grade of oil I need, stud fitment, PCD offset, basically any and all info on the car. Ive also heard its a good idea to service the car immediately when it arrives? Is this true?
4. Fourthly, what fuel do you lot use, I know in Japan they run on 100 RON fuel but here were limited to 95, Shell Optimax is around 97 mark or is there any other fuel?
5. Also can someone give me the 0-60 time, havent found it anywhere, of a standard teg mind you...
6. Is the speedometer in km/h? If yes, how hard is it to get it converted and is it really necessary, also can you buy a VAFC to disconnect the speed limiter(all jap cars are limited to 110mph, arent they) or is there a cheaper way of doing this.
7. Also can someone show me a picture of the standard interior of the Dc5 as I havent found one
8. Lastly, what sort of power is possible from this, I may be planning a supercharger and uprated pistons, cams, also how much bhp can the std exhaust flow, is it worth upgrading it or not? What mods seem to work well also, Ive noticed its chassis sits sort of high above the wheels on some pictures, coilovers a good idea or will just springs do?

Also that site promises an alarm with the price, what alarm is this to be exact?

LOL a lot of stuff, hope you guys can help... Thanks in Advance!

Here's a few answers for ya:

Q1: Who knows? 10K for an early one will be likely.

Q2: You wont get insured unless you're 25+

Q3: No English manuals, but the online version can be translated through babelfish

Q4: Optimax is 98RON. Just add Octane boost (extra 2RON) if in doubt

Q5: Less than 6 secs every time

Q6: KMH to MPH conversion eliminates the speed limiter

Q7: Just go to http://www.honda.co.jp through babelfish

Q8: 330+ with a supercharger. 250'ish with intake, ECU and exhaust mods

Enjoy.

Hi mate,

will attempt a few of your Q's

1.Who knows?4yrs depreciation,long way off.
2.Who knows?4yrs inflation & insurance price hikes.(Also see Insurance Posts)
3.Manual is in Japanese if you get one.(Also see This Post)
4.Ultimate or Optimax best, supermarket 97 OK,(UW only one who adds octane booster  )
5.The 0-60mph = 6.0 secs according to Jap Honda Website
6.Yes,is normally converted as part of ESVA when buying through an importer.
7.Try the gallery,or my sig link.
8.See MJ TypeR or Herts62 for power search around for mods

Mine was from JPC.It's a simple enclosure jobby that works fine(I won't say what make on forum)

Phew

Always have a good search around first!!

Hope that helps :D

Wow thanks for the quick replys, you positive the kmh to mph conversion eliminates the speed limiter?

Looked at the insurance posts and it does seem discouraging, may have to keep the 1.4 for a bit longer and maybe start getting the NCBs a bit earlier, may even switch onto my own name in January when I turn 19.

DC5 doesn't (or shouldn't,as I dare not try it) like 95ron

Use octane booster if you do use 95ron.

DC5 CAN use 95ron when it's been Hondata'd (performance upgrade for ECU mapping)

I'm pretty sure all our cars do a little more than 112mph,so yes to the other question.

The speed delimiting is done at the same time as km/mph conversion. Don't know anyone (except maybe Rich  ) who's not done more than 120mph in their Teg.

Regarding your earlier questions, like Simon Says (did I really type that?), four years is a long way off. The model will probably have been superceded by then so values MAY have plummeted. Insurance companies may also be a little more flexible when the 360hp rally-meister becomes the norm rather than the exception. I suppose (though this is regularly debated) Honda UK may bring out a limited number in the model run-out (a la DC2) - if so English manuals would be available, fuelling wouldn't be an issue (UK spec is always lower than JDM) etc, etc.

Performance mods are available but the car in its standard form is a dream to drive too - it's all down to personal tastes/requirements.

A happier note for you on the insurance front, YES YOU WILL get insured. iv had my teg DC5 since 19 and im 20 now. my insurance is not dear at all you just haveto fish about. my best advice is head straight for companies with specialist import insurance.

Also the DC5 will run on whatever petrol you put in it. it carries an octane sensor and the ECU retards the timing the lesser grade fuel you put in to stop detonation. that said it takes a while for it to get back to normal once you start putting the good stuff in. total super unleaded and BP ultimate are so different you can noticably feel the difference between em. i refuse to use anything else in mine apart from ultimate or optimax.

hope that helps ye sonna.
